  1. Very good goalkeeper and seems like a nice bloke. Wish him all the best for the future.
  2. Just heard Coady’s post transfer interview on the Football Cliches podcast. So relieved we don’t have to listen to this bloke’s tedious banalities any more. Would have been annoying enough if he’d been any good but hearing him rattle on about giving everything and standards and ambition while having the turning circle of a cruiseliner really took the p**s.
  3. Phillipe Auclair is doing good work on this https://josimarfootball.com/2025/07/29/plus-ca-change/
  4. Would agree that the two teams were better quality in 2005 (Aussies just on the decline from being arguably the greatest ever test team, England building up to become the best in the world a few years later), but in terms of the drama and entertainment this series is right up there and possibly surpasses it for me. Could well be recency bias on my part though of course.
  5. As disappointed as I am about the result this series has actually made me more confident for the Ashes. The top 7 are pretty much settled. You can argue about Crawley but him and Duckett clearly work as an opening partnership for what England are trying to do. Pope is a concern at 3 but Bethell hasn't done his cause any favours by barely playing any cricket this summer and then performing poorly this test. With Archer back we now have two (with Wood) genuine pace merchants which you need in Australia. Atkinson and Carse have proven themselves at this level. Stokes is back bowling consistently. The only real doubt is the spinner - really think Ahmed deserved a go at some point in this series given his form this season. If we can keep the key men fit it will be a close series I think.
  6. 2005 holds a special place in history due to the wider context more than anything else really - last series on terrestrial tv so everyone was watching, England hadn't beaten the Aussies in such a long time, some great personalities (Flintoff, Pietersen, Warne) etc. This series has had drama almost every day and the result wasn't clear until the very last moment. In purely cricketing terms it's arguably been better than 05.
  7. Not shocked by much with our owners these days but this is really gross.
  8. Best home series since 2005? Ashes in 2009, 2015 and 2019 had their moments but this has been almost non stop drama.
  9. Pretty much anyone following Stokes is on a hiding to nothing really. He is a phenomenal leader, one of the best ever in English cricket. If it's Pope I'd like to see him bat at 5 or 6. Brook is clearly being groomed for future captaincy but you don't want to take away the fluency and freedom he has at the moment. There aren't too many other options at the moment. I hope Stokes carries on after the Ashes but can see him stepping down.
  10. Of the five tests this is the pitch he's least suited for, but not playing Yadav at all in this series is utterly bizarre.
  11. Think Derby will do ok this season. Squad isn't anything to shout about but I rate Eustace as a manager. Can see them finishing comfortably mid table, maybe pushing for the play-offs if Agyemang can find his feet at this level.
  12. Alan Parry and Jimmy Greaves on comms?
  13. Mads and his missus seem to spend a lot of time mooching around London art galleries and hip coffee shops according to his Insta. Reckon he’ll be pretty gutted if he has to swap that for the Bigg Market and getting stopped in the street by Raoul Moat lookalikes 50 times a day.
  14. My reading of the legislation is that it won't make a huge difference for clubs at our level, but is quite significant for lower league clubs. It was designed in the aftermath of Bury and Macclesfield going under, and Wigan almost going bust. It's really about providing greater oversight of ownership so clubs aren't asset stripped in the way Bury were.
  15. Responses to this really proving that some people need to get off the internet and go for a walk in the sunshine every now and again.
  16. "Leicester City FC has a long history of partnering with illegal (*) Asian-facing sports betting platforms. In fact, Josimar’s research shows that the Midlands club is the world record holder of the number of such partnerships, with a total of thirteen since 2016, when 12bet became the first such operator to sign a deal with the Foxes. 6686, 8Xbet, Dafabet, EKings, HTH, JiangNan Sports, Kaiyun, Leyu, M88, OB Sport, Yabo and, until the end of last season, crypto casino BC.GAME were the others. All of them Asian-facing. All of them illegal." Incredible stuff from our 'family club'.
  17. Yeah it's Elek. I don't mind him tbh. And the other guy is ok.
  18. The beauty of not being on Twitter anymore!
  19. Not The Top 20 is a far superior EFL podcast. Covers the whole EFL so you don't get as much pure Champo chat but they're not click merchants like the Second Tier goons.
  20. Really impressed with Jamie from the Foxes Trust. Feel very reassured people like him are out there representing the supporters voice.
  21. He’s Catalan. So more like: it being rainier than you think it will be; weird language that sounds more French than Spanish; Salvador Dali; sausage and bean stew; Rugby League.
  22. Don't disagree, but if we are going to play a spinner at least have one who can contribute with the bat.
  23. Stokes and Baz should be on the phone to Liam Dawson this morning. Play him at 8 then for the rest of this series you've got a combination of Woakes, Atkinson, Carse, Cook, Archer, Tongue and Wood at 9, 10 and 11. Bashir is offering absolutely nothing.
  24. It really varies depending on the fixtures. Sheffield United away on a Saturday afternoon is unlikely to get down to members. Middlesbrough away on a Tuesday night probably will.
