Don't be daft. He's the only CB we have who can play the way Martin wants to play. Souttar's useless at it, Faes is the obvious choice. (And I shall stand by this even after he gives away one goal through a stupid mistake and then scores an own goal to lose us the game in the 96th minute. He's still the obvious choice if we're gonna play this way.)

Just like I don't need to be a detective to know it can't be a coincidence that the hot summer this year happened after my cousin broke his wrist in April.

Cuddy's great. I like The Gallows Pole a lot too. Recommendations for someone trying to get into reading? John Steinbeck's short fiction is great - try Cannery Row. All Graham Greene is good. Iain Banks - I'd suggest reading Espedair Street before any of his more famous ones, but you can't really go wrong. Of current authors, Sarah Hall and Elif Shafak don't put many feet wrong. Ditto Maggie O'Farrell. If you want something a bit less 'literary' but really well done, approachable and funny, Nick Hornby and David Nicholls are both great. Oh, and if you want something insanely literary, somewhat unapproachable, and often quite hard work, but also really brilliant, try some David Mitchell (no, not the Peep Show one!).

Not really. He's nineteen and has been in a new country for about a fortnight. No rush.

Not much money. And even if they turn out to be not much cop (too early to be sure yet) if they're a couple of experienced players who aren't twats to have in a squad with loads of promising youngsters, they're probably worth it. Say what you will about Russell Martin, he seems to genuinely want to use and develop young players, and also to want a squad that isn't full of negative influences.

I take it you missed the last match when they were actually ok?

All true, although of course some people obviously do have to be back-up players, you can't only have a squad of first choice starters.
