Nice oversimplification there. You don't think perhaps demand is impacted by people thinking they get to move without spending thousands on wasted tax? This is why prices spiked with a limited time pause on SD. Many potential movers dismiss the idea of moving due to SD costs before they are even in the market. Most people in the market are also sellers, so if you take away the blocker of SD you increase both supply and demand, but remove the low supply price pressure thus likely creating a more fluid market with no discernable reason for upward prices pressure, Not that markets always act rationally of course.

Short term blip because everyone knew it was coming back, so they were willing to pay more to save overall. If it was permanently removed this would not happen.

Of course Stamp duty is a disincentive to house buying. Stops people making sensible moves to be close to work etc all the time. Yep, and I feel for the impacted families who cannot afford to pay the increase. These are exactly the people Labour should be courting, but no.

Reform being above half the Tory vote is impressive. Alarming but impressive.

This is a crap way of achieving that. Almost like the objective is to discourage people from going to private schools rather than raising funds to improve state schools. It's the Labour equivalent of the Torys banging on about immigrants. The Rich are the problem for them, rather than the immigrant. Same politics, and it is poor imo, the kind of thing we should be moving away from.

This is a good point, I would fully expect fee paying schools to immediately cancel all of their charitable work to try to swallow some of the increases. Scholarships etc. are driven by their charitable status. Tthis continues the elitism of private schools so only the very rich can afford them. Civil servants used to send their kids to private school. What I would say is what annoys me most about this is the tax take quoted by Labour, which assumes NO kids leave private school and attend public school, or that schools take not action to reduce fees. Which is obvsiouly nonsense.

The main point is players and managers are not local boys done good anymore, this is a global game with the resultant lack of long term connection to a club. They are just an employees like any other really.

You cant expect people to put up with blackouts when the UK is creating such a small part of the worlds CO2 emissions. People would be better focused on not buying things made in countries who are polluting - stop outsourcing our emissions to China and others, put pressure on retailers etc to source ethically.

Not sure what your context is for this, but I do think some green types can be very short sighted. Ie just because your aim is right, doesn't mean your approach necessarily is. People are a funny bunch, and a lot of them we do the opposite of what you want if you try to tell them what to do, or that they are idiots, even when they should do it for myriad reasons and the are indeed idiots.

He isn't the first and won't be the last to fall foul of disclosure rules from his employer. He might quite reasonably argue his profile came not just from being on the BBC, and that he had the right to work on promotional activities, however I guess BBC guidelines are no doubt very clear on the fact that you need to tell them about these activities. Most employers require you to disclose other work which might impinge on your ability to carry out your job to the best of your abilities. Still I am glad Ian is doing well at talksport and hope he can put this behind him.
