I thought it was bang average when i went. Certainly not worth it for the price

Went to Indian Queen on Friday night. Such a funny venue, still cash only and proper regulars inside. The starters are excellent, with the lamb chops being the best in Leicester IMO. Mains are pretty average but do the job. Screens everywhere with the football, cricket and golf all on at the same time on Friday. Kind of place that if it was in London would be all over social media.

Team sports are just so much better than individual sports. I hardly watch any golf but really enjoyed this!

Can anyone recommend architects in Leicestershire/East Midlands for a two-storey house redevelopment/extension? I did a bit of work on my old house, but I'm fairly clueless going into the process and I'm sure plenty of mistakes will be made...

I always think it's nice to go somewhere where you can hop on the train easily to somewhere else too. The smaller, quaint towns are usually much nicer but don't have enough to keep you occupied for a whole weekend. Leeds - York Brighton - Lewes Bristol - Bath In terms of just the cities themselves, I think Liverpool, Newcastle and Edinburgh are the best for a city break.

Hardcore diet in the week and taking up running! The beer and running thread go hand in hand 😂 Having said that I’ve gone to complete shit this summer with lots of weddings, stag dos, and all the casual beers inbetween. Starting to impact my wellbeing and need to cut down. Do always look forward to a few beers at the weekend though.

Went to the Great Central Railway Beer Festival on Saturday. Beer selection was excellent and good fun hopping on the train between the stations. Each station has a beer tent with loads of independent beers on and decent food vendors too. Will deffo go next year. Seems like it did very well from my few hours there.

Little Brewery in Derby specialise in gluten free beers. Also the owner of the Wheeltapper in Loughborough is a Celiac and always has multiple gluten free options on Cask (usually from Little).

I see Shiny Brewery have taken over the Patternmakers Arms in Duffield which will inevitably add another good pub to an already thriving area. Will try and get over that way soon for the first time and tick off Holly Bush Inn.

Such a shame the station isn't the old great central railway station. That side of the town is much better IMO.

Yeh it’s a Star/Heineken pub unfortunately, so they’ve seen it’s done well and want more rent. Apparently the current tenants have agreed a new lease with them which is good, so the Three Crowns lives on. Such a shame so many village pubs are owned by these bellends

Fox Cub, Navigation, Swan, Pinsent. Just missed out on the cask Blue Fox - devastating… but still a great Leicestershire crawl

Thanks very much, this is near my new office!

You could day trip it easily from Milan rather than staying in Cremona for the weekend. Only an hour on the train.

Seems like the new ground is just as quiet as Goodisan Park -
For any Charnwood heads the Navigation in Barrow has a beer festival on this weekend. 12 Cask ales and 13 Ciders

I was in Halifax a few weeks ago and did the Three Pigeons. Sowerby Bridge is also good - Shepherds Rest (another Osset pub), Hogs Head Brew House, and Turks Head. You could do an amazing crawl incorporating all the good pubs in Halifax with Sowerby Bridge (Big Six is in the middle of the two). Sowerby Bridge also has a station taking you back to Leeds or you can even carry onto Hebden Bridge.

will get those added to my google maps!

what are the top 5 in Brum out of interest?

I used to get this for lunch when i worked in Leicester. Was about £5 back then (still great value now). Would make me doze off in the afternoon

All the best ones are to the north of the city centre out in the suburbs. Taj Bar and Grill is decent and walkable from the centre and stadium.

Cricket (None Leicestershire County Cricket Club)

Same here. I think it's a complete myth that mickey mouse cricket gets the youngsters hooked. Is there any data to suggest that the Hundred has done that? It's the highest level of sport, and meaning, that people crave not trivial nonsense. I remember watching the launch of t20 in 2003 and quickly losing interest. It was the 2005 ashes that got me hooked. I lost a bit of interest in cricket from about 2013 - 2019, but was brought right back in 2019 with the world cup and Ashes. -

The Ashes is our big derby and an India series will never quite be the same. I wasn't annoyed at all this morning and felt happy for India because they deserved it. If that was the Ashes I would have been absolutely fuming. It's been a great series and the tests have all ended well, however there have been dull spells where the pitch has been completely flat. -
Big news! Where did you hear this?
