I'm entirely with you on this one. In some areas it's used as an excuse for teenagers to run amok too. I'll add that it's also just another example of commercialism, creating a fear of missing out for something that, in this country, nobody really bothered about 30+ years ago. It always seems to me that "Britishness" is represented by many to be something akin to a Pathe News reel - something that no longer exists, except is some people's deluded minds. Often it's people too young to have actually experienced that way of living. It makes me wonder if people in the 1960s hankered after silent movies, gas lights (not what you think kids!), penny-farthings and smallpox.

Long way to come from Orkney, but it does a great distillery tour with the added advantage of being in a town, so you can have a drink without worrying about driving.
