  2. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jordan-james-injury-update-ipswich-10698798 Jordan James injury update for Ipswich clash after Leicester City midfielder's substitution The Wales international was taken off before the hour mark in City's 2-2 draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate, where they gave up a two-goal half-time advantage Jordan Blackwell 11:14, 11 Dec 2025 Jordan James is battling to be fit to face Ipswich on Saturday after a groin injury saw him substituted in Leicester City’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City. James has just over 48 hours to recover before City host the promotion-chasing Tractor Boys, with manager Marti Cifuentes hopeful he will be able to include the loanee in his line-up. Cifuentes said that James had felt a problem in his groin at half-time. He came out for the second half to see if he could shake it off, but that wasn’t the case, the Welshman needing to subbed before the hour mark. “With JJ today we had to sub him because he was struggling at half-time,” Cifuentes said. Marti Cifuentes admits his half-time mantra is not getting through to Leicester City players Marti Cifuentes gives unconvincing answer on Harry Winks selection after Leicester City omission “We tried to see how it could go in the second half but it was not getting better. Having a game in 48 hours, it’s important to keep everybody available. “Hopefully (he’ll be okay to play on Saturday). He mentioned he was feeling it and it was not getting better. He’s a very important player for us.” With Aaron Ramsey and Boubakary Soumare injured, and with Harry Winks seemingly not being considered for selection, City are running low on midfielders. Following James’ withdrawal, Bobby De Cordova-Reid dropped into James’ box-to-box role, with Jordan Ayew taking over as the number 10. Later on, Hamza Choudhury took over from De Cordova-Reid with Bade Aluko brought on at right-back. Louis Page also got some minutes in midfield late on. Cifuentes said Winks will be available for selection for Saturday, but was unconvincing in his answer, and so the England midfielder may be left out for a third straight game. Ramsey is getting closer to a return from a hamstring injury suffered in October, but is not yet due back. When providing an update on Soumare at the start of the week, Cifuentes said the club were waiting for feedback on a knee issue.

  8. Joanne Vigor-Mungovin - Author Hidden Leicester · Follow On this day 9 December 1869, St Stephen's Presbyterian Church on London Road in Leicester was opened. In 1891, during the construction of the current railway station, the church was meticulously dismantled and then painstakingly relocated, piece by piece, to its current location on the intersection of De Montfort Street and New Walk. This historic church has since become widely renowned as 'The Church that moved'. St Stephen's is now a United Reformed Church.
  9. Better than it used to be. John Ghent Leicester Estate Agent Life Between the Walls A mother and her children standing in a shared courtyard — a scene that once played out across Leicester’s slum areas. One outdoor toilet. One tap. Open drains. Damp walls. Yet these courtyards were also full of community spirit because people had no choice but to face life together. Hardship and strength, side by side. #LeicesterHistory #SlumHousing #LeicesterHeritage #WorkingClassLife #UrbanHistory This scene could be from dozens of Leicester streets in the early 1900s. Back-to-backs, leaking roofs, coal fires, hand-me-down clothes — and a family dog weaving between houses. Four, six, even ten people in two rooms. Little money. Little comfort. But somehow — plenty of pride. Slum clearances in the 60s and 70s changed everything, but the resilience of these families shaped Leicester’s character forever. #LeicesterHistory #WorkingClassHeritage #BackToBacks #SlumLife #LeicesterStories

  15. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jeremy-monga-injury-latest-leicester-10691426 Jeremy Monga injury latest with Leicester City set to have seven missing for Bristol City clash The 16-year-old winger was missing from the squad for the win at Derby and may not play again before Christmas, with doubts over midfielder Boubakary Soumare too Jordan Blackwell 07:00, 08 Dec 2025 Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga may not play again until after Christmas Monga was absent from the City squad that won at Derby on Saturday and manager Marti Cifuentes said he had a muscle problem, one that could keep him out for a couple of weeks. It seems almost certain then that he will miss the fixtures against Bristol City and Ipswich this week, and may not be back in time to face QPR in the final match before Christmas either. City are also still assessing Boubakary Soumare, who has picked up a knee injury in training. The Frenchman was also absent at Pride Park. It means City are set to have seven players missing for their trip to Ashton Gate on Wednesday. Caleb Okoli (knee), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and Victor Kristiansen (knee) are all out, while Harry Souttar still needs time in training following his year-long absence with an Achilles tear. Harry Winks' omission in a “technical decision” does not bode well for the midfielder to feature again soon, with his future now in doubt as the January window nears. Thankfully for City, they had Jakub Stolarczyk and Ben Nelson return to fitness at Derby, with both going straight back into the 11 and both performing well. Discussing Nelson, Cifuentes said: “It was tough for us because from the moment he started to get the momentum, he played really well before that injury, then it was a blow for all of us. “But he has shown a very good pro mindset to be back as soon as possible. I have a lot of trust in him and he responded with an excellent performance in a week that has not been easy. “Unfortunately, we got two more injuries in the form of Bouba and Jeremy. Jeremy is more of a muscular thing. Hopefully we are talking about a few days, perhaps one to two weeks. Hopefully it’s not a big one. Bouba, we need to know more about him. “To have players coming back is so important and it’s a busy period, so the way the team responded to this adversity is very good.” By the time they face QPR, City may also be without Patson Daka, with the striker set to be included in the Zambia squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
  16. Made In Leicester David Rigg Saw this old WW1 photo in an album owned by a friend and thought it may be of interest. This from a google search; "The University of Leicester itself was founded as a memorial to the local men who died in the First World War, a fact reflected in the institution’s motto ‘ut vitam habeant’ which means ‘so that they may have life’. University College Leicester (as it was then) began as an idea that predated the Great War and eventually came to fruition when the College was founded in 1921. In the intervening years, the future campus performed an important role as a military hospital. The University’s main administration building, now known as the Fielding Johnson Building, had been constructed in 1837 as the Leicestershire and Rutland County Asylum, but became empty in 1908 after patients and staff transferred to a new asylum in Narborough which had opened the previous year. In 1911, the empty County Asylum building was identified by Medical Officers from the Territorial Force or TF (predecessor to the TA) as a suitable location for a military hospital, should the need arise. Three years later, that need did arise and the building was designated as the base for a TF medical unit, the 5th Northern General Hospital. Outbuildings were demolished and replaced with four long, flat-roofed brick huts to house officers while nurses and medical staff had rooms in the main building".

  19. RockMetal MusicHistory is in USA. · Follow On April 19th, 1991, Steve Marriott and his wife, Toni Poulton, flew home from the USA after he had abandoned a planned project with Peter Frampton. Poulton later recalled that Marriott had been drinking heavily and was in a foul mood, leading to heated arguments. That evening, they dined with a friend at The Straw Hat, one of Marriott’s favourite restaurants in Sawbridgeworth, where he continued drinking. Later, they stayed at their friend’s house, but the arguments persisted. While Poulton eventually fell asleep, Marriott left alone in a taxi for his cottage in Arkesden. At around 6:30 a.m. on April 20th, a passing motorist spotted flames consuming the roof of Marriott’s cottage and called the fire brigade. Four fire engines were dispatched to battle the blaze. Firefighters fought their way upstairs through intense heat and smoke, eventually finding Marriott lying between his bed and the wall—evidence suggesting he had been in bed and tried to escape. Tragically, the conditions had made survival impossible. Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Keith Dunatis, who was a fan of Marriott, recalled the moment with deep sadness. He described the scene as “horrific” and said it felt like losing a part of his own life. While they were able to save Marriott’s guitars and musical equipment, the loss was profound. For many who admired him, that day marked not just the end of a legendary career, but the passing of a piece of rock history.
