Leicester City Football Club Outstanding academic results During the EFL‘s Youth Development Week, our Academy is proudly celebrating some of their strongest academic results in recent history. Our Academy is proud to celebrate another year of excellence off the pitch, with our young players achieving some of their strongest academic results in recent history. Results among the best achieved by our Academy players First year with two in-house teachers supporting BTEC students Commitment to education recognised as young players excel in their studies This summer has seen some of the best GCSE (U16), A-level and BTEC (U18) results ever recorded by the Academy, underlining our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals as well as footballers. Each U18 scholar accomplished at or above their target grade, with GCSE attainment for our U16s the highest on record, surpassing the national average for 2024. For the first time, the Academy has had two in-house teachers dedicated to supporting our BTEC students, providing guidance and learning support alongside a busy training schedule. With this in-house teacher investment, we are now running three separate timetables for players across U18, U21 and First Team schedules. The work of our in-house teachers has been pivotal in helping players balance their football development with academic achievement, ensuring they are prepared for a variety of pathways in the future. The results reflect the hard work of our players, staff and education team, who all contribute to the strong culture of learning that exists throughout our Academy, while our partnership with Ratcliffe College has produced the highest ever value-added data. Our Head of Education, Jay Groocock, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the way our players have approached their studies this year. Balancing football and education is never easy, but the results show the dedication they have shown on and off the pitch. “Our aim is to give every player the skills and qualifications they need for the future, and this year’s achievements are a fantastic step forward." As the Academy continues to nurture the next generation of Foxes, these results stand as a testament to the Club’s belief that education is every bit as important as footballing ability in shaping successful, well-rounded young people. -

Leics promoted to Division One after 22-year exile Rishi Patel and Ian Holland walking from the field as rain falls Rishi Patel and Ian Holland had put on 76 for the second wicket when rain ended play Rothesay County Championship Division Two, Uptonsteel County Ground, Leicester (day four) Gloucestershire 482 & 175-3: Phillips 69*, Charlesworth 61; Holland 2-58 Leicestershire 342 & 93-1: Patel 42*; Singh Dale 1-19 Gloucestershire (15pts) drew with Leicestershire (12pts) Match scorecard There was no thrilling finale on the field but Leicestershire could celebrate nonetheless after securing the draw with Gloucestershire that, in the event, ensured their promotion to Division One of the County Championship. With two fixtures still to play, the result at the Uptonsteel County Ground combined with the draw between Middlesex and Derbyshire at Lord's guarantees that Leicestershire will finish in the top two in Division Two and end a 22-year-exile from the top division. Set 316 to win from a minimum of 74 overs when Gloucestershire, who felt their outside chance of a promotion required them to win here, declared four overs before lunch on 175-3 in their second innings, Leicestershire were 93-1 from 30.3 when the afternoon's third interruption for rain proved heavy enough for the final day's play to be abandoned at around 4.10pm. It is a first promotion for Leicestershire since the County Championship adopted its current two-division format in 2000. Led for most of the season by Australian international Peter Handscomb - now back home preparing for his domestic season - Leicestershire have been the dominant side in Division Two all season after winning five of their first seven matches and suffering only one defeat. They last played in Division One in 2003 and have since become almost perpetual stragglers, finishing bottom of Division Two on eight occasions. In four of those, the last as recently as 2022, they failed to register a single victory, famously going 37 matches over 933 days without a Championship win between September 2012 and June 2015. Leicestershire, whose next target is to secure the points they need to guarantee they are crowned Division Two champions, went into the final day in the comfortable knowledge that while a victory would seal the deal in terms of confirming promotion, a draw might do it anyway depending on the result at Lord's, or at worst leave them needing minimal gains from their final two fixtures. Gloucestershire's need for a win, therefore, put the onus on them to set up a finish, to which end they added 165 in 21 overs before declaring just before lunch. Against a Leicestershire attack that was a man down because of Ben Mike's ongoing hamstring problems, 21-year-old opener Joe Phillips further enhanced his growing reputation with an unbeaten 69 from 73 balls. Ben Charlesworth cleared the midwicket boundary off Logan van Beek and landed back-to-back sixes off Ian Wright in his 56-ball 61 before a miscue to deep third man ended his charge. Ian Holland limited Ollie Price to just eight but Miles Hammond plundered another 28 from 26 before top-edging into off side, Holland veering away in his follow-through to be under the ball when it came down. Gloucestershire asked Leicestershire to face four overs before lunch possibly more in hope than expectation. The wicket of Sol Budinger perhaps came as a bonus, the opener making no attempt to rein in his natural attacking instincts but perishing after just 13 deliveries, tempted by a wide ball from Ajeet Singh Dale and picking out the fielder at wide third man. The visitors' cause was not helped by showers after lunch, which eventually washed out 43.3 overs of the scheduled 74. Yet there never seemed enough jeopardy in the fourth-day surface to make 10 wickets a realistic possibility. Rishi Patel finished unbeaten on 42 with acting captain Ian Holland on 27. Gloucestershire's frustration was cushioned a little by taking 15 points for the draw, but the gap between themselves and second-placed Glamorgan remains at more than 30 points. Sure and it's because of that he can go down that route. I'm sure Pearson would have liked a similar output of talent because he was of that mind too. -
I hope so

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marti-cifuentes-outlines-leicester-city-10489420 Marti Cifuentes outlines Leicester City 'extra value' plan after 12-year record set Leicester City have fielded the two youngest players in the Championship this season in Jeremy Monga and Louis Page, and the manager hopes plenty will follow their path ByJordan Blackwell 13:19, 10 SEP 2025 Leicester City’s youngest stars are showing maturity beyond their years with manager Marti Cifuentes building a process for more academy talents to follow in their footsteps. At 16 and 17 years old, Jeremy Monga and Louis Page are comfortably the youngest players to have featured in the Championship this season, with no other under-18s making an appearance across the whole of the division. And they are showing a selflessness not usually associated with those so young. In City’s last outing, the 2-0 win over Birmingham, Page and Monga set up the two goals. It’s one of the qualities that has given Cifuentes the confidence to use them so frequently, despite their age. Cifuentes said: “I’m very happy for them because it shows maturity that they don’t just try to finish by themselves. Sometimes players can be selfish when they’re young. “They are playing because they are good. Of course we need to help them to develop their qualities, because there’s a lot of quality with those guys. “They will play better some days than others because we know as a young player sometimes there are ups and downs. But I’m most pleased that they show personality. “They want the ball, they are not afraid. They play with the freedom I like them to play with. Hopefully there are many more assists coming.” Monga and Page are not the only homegrown teenagers around the first team, with full-back Bade Aluko and forward Jake Evans training regularly with the senior squad. In fact, it’s a young group on the whole at City. The starting line-up for the Carabao Cup tie at Huddersfield last month was the youngest City had put out for more than 12 years, with seven of the 11 having graduated through the academy. In order to ensure that academy players keep making appearances, Cifuentes hopes to build an identity that spreads across the youth teams, allowing for a smoother transition to the senior squad. If successful, it will not only save City money in the transfer market but give them something extra on the pitch too, knowing those who have grown up locally and risen through the ranks care that little bit more. “There are more coming through,” Cifuentes said. “They will have their opportunities. “But it’s not to just say we want a certain amount of players from the academy making their debuts this season. It’s to make sure they are succeeding. “Some of them will take more time than others. Some of them will make more appearances, especially this first season. “The important thing is to create a path by our way of playing, by our identity, so that the players feel comfortable when they come from the Under-18s or Under-21s to the first team, that the way of playing is natural for them, and that they feel from day one that they are welcome and valued into the first team. “We know that when there is someone coming through the academy, there is an extra value in the sense they usually have a feeling for the club and they really care for the club. That can set a foundation.” -

They’d have more money if they didn’t have to spend so much on litter picking and chewing gum removals is very expensive and like the Forth Bridge painting never ending.
