They only need to be better than nine of the twelve SPFL clubs to guarantee some form of European football every single year, and they got to the quarters of the UEL this season. Celtic are midtable to lower end Prem quality, Rangers are upper mid Championship quality and the rest isn't even that. It wouldn't take much for Rangers to look vaguely decent in that division. They've been a very distant second best today. Hopefully knocks their confidence/arrogance for the run-in just as Man City, Newcastle and/or Villa and Chelsea put a late run together.

Their record against the rest of the top six is pretty minging. Newcastle did the double over them, Arsenal picked up four points against them, as did Manchester City. Villa beat them as well. Weirdly, the only team in the top six not to do them was Liverpool. Realistically though, they'd be more out of their depth than Stuart Lubbock if they qualified.

No, it doesn't. But since the tradition of playing games at neutral stadia other than Wembley stopped, we have see multiple decent stadia with capacities above 40,000 either built or renovated. Etihad Old Trafford Anfield Bramley Moore (from next season) St James's Park Stadium of Light Villa Park Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Emirates London Stadium Stamford Bridge Genuinely no reason why there can't be semi-finals at neutral grounds.

Having the semi at Wembley has, unfortunately, been going on for so long that the tradition of having it at a decent neutral stadium equidistant between the two teams passed into memory. It's farcical, though. Why play any game other than the final at Wembley if it's between, say, two northern sides?
