Guest MattP Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 I'll bet IDS has more experience of seeing these sink estates than 99% of people. I'm just glad he can really sort out welfare now with no interference from anyone else, if we've got people smoking up bongs at 1pm missing court cases, we can clearly go a lot further.

If in 5 years we still have people "smoking up bongs at 1pm missing court cases" Will IDS have failed?
Rincewind Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 Iwonderhow many of them live next door to his 3 million pound mansion? He must have a very powerful telescope to see what goes on.

Captain... Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 If in 5 years we still have people "smoking up bongs at 1pm missing court cases" Will IDS have failed? Only if they are on reality TV.

I believe he's referring to his wifes £2 million pound piece of estate in Swanbourne, Buckinghamshire. She's descended from the aristocracy - her father is Lord Cottesloe. It's actually a pretty impressive place. Nice little shop across the road from it too.

ADK Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 Everyone focuses on the customers of welfare but the real issue is the state of the DWP and probably the wider civil service. Not giving value for money for either customers or taxpayers in my opinion and that is nothing to do with customer's lifestyles. Even if you get through another 10% cut to benefits in real terms, it doesn't address the issues behind worklessness. Whether they are due to macroeconomics, local economics or social-behavioural issues. There hasn't been anywhere ever that has solved poverty by increasing poverty, it's fundamentally a flawed logic with no evidence to justify it.
leicsmac Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 And my point is invalid? Not at all - I'm sure he has a place in London too. I was just clarifying Ken's point for him.
