Steven Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 We dont get a mention. Leeds boss wary of strong league By Paul Fletcher Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell believes that the Championship is the strongest the division has been in years. "This is the hardest year of the last five or six," Blackwell told BBC Sport. "There are 10 or 12 clubs who could get promoted if lady luck smiles on them. "Norwich and Crystal Palace came down with solid squads, while Sheffield United have spent decent money and Reading spent a million on a striker. "And you don't write off sides like Preston, Ipswich and Derby." Blackwell, whose side have beaten Wolves and Norwich in their last two Championship games, added: "The three teams that came down have not lost that many of their squad. "Some have lost a few but no one can talk to Leeds about losing players - we lost everybody. "We are such an attraction for players to come to I think that once we have sorted all the finances out there is no doubt we will draw the better players and I'm sure we will get back to the Premier League sooner rather than later. With Hull, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United also in the Championship Blackwell is wary of the dangers of so many fixtures against local rivals in one season. "I wouldn't say it helps Leeds," he said. "When I was at Sheffield United I found that derby games take a lot out of players. "It can be counter productive in terms of getting points on the board." Hazza Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Reminds me of Mike Bassett England Manager where Pele is being interviewed about who could win the world cup and he says a load of countries but doesn't mention England. Needless to say, although he's right about it being a competitive league, i don't like Blackwell.

Anish Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 I think he's right though. If you supported or managed another Championship club would you genuinely think that Leicester were one of the promotion hopefuls given the results this season and last season's performance? I doubt it.

I doubt it. That's a very valid point
Durnerz Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Blackwells a comedian "Leeds are the biggest club in the Championship" is what he said at the start of this season yet an opening gate of 20,000 and buying any player with a half decent past history (Nathan Blake and Steve Guppy spring to mind) has made him look a tit. Now he's onto his Cresswells and suchlike, the man is Micky Adams the rich man version, full of shit.
Thracian Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 We'll see what won't we Don't think that logically you would highlight Leicester for promotion. Too many changes, too much upheaval. Probably too much inexperience and the side is still getting used to each other. Indeed, I doubt if the manager knows his best side at this point let alone his best tactical formation. The thing is though that you don't get points for logic or or for crystal ball gazing. Lots of football pundits and a good few City fans predicted Leicester would get a play off place at the start of last season and I could NEVER see the sense in that sort of talk. Fact is though they were wrong and the comments from Leeds could be wrong too. Tell you what. I've got far more faith in this Leicester team and this Leicester manager than I ever had in Mickey Adams and they might get in with a shout if they can get a settled side and formation, if they can build confidence with a run of decent results and if the other teams cancel one another out a bit. Logically, City should improve as the season progresses and if it comes down to the wire just perhaps their youthfullness will help em finish the campaign in some style. Not saying it is likely but I do think it's possible. If we're under-rated, overlooked, whatever, then that won't do our cause any harm. In fact if I were manager, I might post the article on the dressing room to illustrate the impact which Leeds think we are likely to have. Should prove a perfect piece of motivational propaganda.
Scow Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 We're 18th in the table - What suggests we're seen as a potential challenger for promotion? I recognise it's early, but the trend from last season (drawing too many games, conceding from corners, not scoring enough goals) has carried on to this campaign. I think we will improve as the season goes on, but not enough to challenge the top six. I believe in what Levein is trying to do, but it will take time. Too many fans are impatient and expect to see instant success, which is indicative of any set of fans. We have a group of young, talented players, who will get better. As long as we see progress this season, then we should be happy with that. Besides, we have another 40 games to go anyway...
Fox 4 Life Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Who cares what Blackwell says, he is a mixture of all the bad things about Micky Adams and Peter Taylor!
Scow Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Who cares what Blackwell says, he is a mixture of all the bad things about Micky Adams and Peter Taylor! That's a fair comment. Blackwell is a transfer whore and seems to purchase players for the sake of it. He has spent nearly £4 Million on 3 new strikers, which means he now has 5 at his disposal.
Fox 4 Life Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 I think he is Micky Adams with money - totally inexperienced. Which is exactly what Taylor was. Thats why im glad we have Levein, he seems far more careful! Also as you say he has signed 3 striker and already one - Blake is apparently unhappy and hes only been there a few months!
cisono Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 We dont get a mention. Source Not sure I counted correctly but he mentions that 10-12 teams that might get promoted and then only names about 9?
Jay Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 Hate Blackwell... Hate Leeds.... Hate Ken Bates the good news is they don't seem to have learned from any of their previous mistakes and seem to be signing players for fun!! I don't know where the money is coming from either I really doubt it's from Ken Bates he never stuck his hand in his pocket at Chelsea but was very very good at spending other peoples money!

Levein's Scottish. I play golf with a Scotsman and daren't mark my ball on the greens with a £1 coin cos the thing'd disappear!.
Hitesh Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 How can he say Hull and Sheff Wed and not us...clearly proves why he is manager of Leeds! Anyway, i dont care, just as long as CL sees us as promotion candidates and we push for that then thats all that matters. Dont care what other manager think, just as long as we show them that we are a force to be reckoned with!

Cal Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 Dont know why he goes on to mention Ipswich, They are rebuilding like us. Fair point they are higher in the table currently but whos Blackwell to say which teams are the best..
Leicester_Mad Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 the only reason we expect leicester to be in the top6 is because we support them. After the past season and the first 6 games in this one i certainly wouldnt even say top10 for us.

Gamesmaster Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 We dont get a mention. why does it bother you. the more are good players get noticed, the more chance we have of loosing them. who gives a stuff what the media say, im bothered what happends on the pitch, lets concentrate on that.
