cisono Posted 4 September 2005 Posted 4 September 2005 Ah, here it is: City Are The Masters! City Are The Masters! Leicester City were crowned UK Masters champions at the M.E.N Arena in Manchester on Sunday evening. The veteran City side, containing the likes of Ali Mauchlen, Paul Ramsey and David Oldfield, overcame Chelsea 3-2 in the final of the competition in front of a packed house. Leicester won the chance to take on the best over-35s in the country after they fought through their group games at the Nottingham Arena back in July to take a place in the Grand Final. And although rated as underdogs City beat all challengers to scoop the prestigious title. City overcame pre-tournament favourites Middlesbrough 3-2 in their opening game with a well taken brace from David Oldfield helping them on their way. The Foxes then came up against arch-rivals Aston Villa at the semi final of the competition - and after going a goal behind they fought back well to post a 3-2 victory with Lee Philpott, Tommy Wright and Paul Groves getting on the scoresheet. And Leicester's against the odds victory was complete when Philpott, Groves and Kevin Russell found the target to complete a night to remember. City will now represent the UK in the European Masters which will be held next spring. City: Dale Belford, Paul Ramsey, Paul Groves, Ali Mauchlen, Tommy Wright, Kevin Russell, Alan Paris, Tony Spearing , Lee Philpott, David Oldfield.
Samu Posted 4 September 2005 Posted 4 September 2005 That was bloody brilliant. I didn't remember Philpott looking like that though! We really did deserve to win that final. Good times
lush Posted 4 September 2005 Author Posted 4 September 2005 I said if we won, that lcfc would join in, yet NO mention of the event before so.
