Rincewind Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 I read today that one of theTory MP's made into a peer claimed several thousands of taxpayers money for a moat. I wonder if there are any fish in it.
davieG Posted 28 August 2015 Author Posted 28 August 2015 I had to look up anachronism. Couldn't you just have said "past it" I could have but I thought it fitted better with the subject matter. FoxesTalk you learn something every day.
Mike Oxlong Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 I could have but I thought it fitted better with the subject matter. FoxesTalk you learn something every day. Always a pretty rotten institution. Previously about "breeding" Now about cronyism.
Carl the Llama Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Always a pretty rotten institution. Previously about "breeding" Now about cronyism. FT or the HoL?
Darkon84 Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 I read today that one of theTory MP's made into a peer claimed several thousands of taxpayers money for a moat. I wonder if there are any fish in it. It was for cleaning the moat, not actually for the moat. He stood down and paid the money, though he still maintains it was never actually claimed.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 It's a Tory MP and expenses, just make it up and claim you read it somewhere. I heard he borrowed 5 people from IDS at the job centre to clean it as well, 4 of them then died due to being sanctioned. A guy in the pub heard it on the radio.

Typically, that never appeared in the Tory press..
Rincewind Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 I do not appreciate being called a liar. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tory-mp-who-claimed-moat-cleaning-on-his-expenses-will-return-to-parliament-through-lords-10474701.html You can actually get an official list of who claim ed what online. I believe Corbyn claimed less the least But I expect that will not be believed either and because he is Labour the figure will be in the millions. Of course Tory's are never the bad boys in some peoples' eyes. This is from the Torygraph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/conservative-mps-expenses/ The lists are compiled by IPSA.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 The tell the truth Ken rather than making up things. Back to the thread Peter Hain said this last year, find it strange he accepts a peerage now. “The Lords are an archaic anomaly which fuels disillusionment with British politics. It exists purely on a democratic deficit which has been allowed to evolve unchecked for centuries… the fact is that people are fed up with an out-of-touch political class and the growing sense that Westminster is failing us all.”
Rincewind Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Thought they were your words at first Matt then saw you had quoted. For a moment I thought you had turned. Quote from the Telegraph Douglas Hogg, the former Tory MP who claimed for cleaning out his moat on expenses, among former special advisers and Tory donors to be given peerages and honours Am I still a liar?
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Turned? I think my thoughts on the HOL are quite clear, it's injurious unelected persons can overule elected ones (and I'd say the same about the royals if they ever did). It's needs serious reform at the very least.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Yes we are. I don't think you deliberately lied but as Darkon said, he claimed money for cleaning, not thousands of pounds for an actual moat. Also as has been mentioned, he still denies this but paid it anyway.
