kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 Japan v Cambodia World Cup Qualifier Match Thread Coming live from a bar in a remote corner of Japan Kick Off 11.26 am UK time Bring your sushi and your sake
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Who are the top two international goalscorers currently playing in the Premier League? Of course it's: Rooney 48 Okazaki 43 So - with two international games each this week, can Shinji beat Wayne to the half century? Will Vardy provide an 'assist' for Shinji by keeping Rooney out of the starting XI? We can but dream... Japan's games are World Cup qualifiers. Yes - they've started already for Russia 2018. Japan (FIFA ranked 54) are in a group with Singapore, Cambodia, Syria and Afghanistan. I would reel off their FIFA rankings too but it would sound like a Sid Waddell commentary. Only the top team will definitely go through to the final Asian qualifying round, and Japan started badly. Their first game was at home to Singapore, and despite totally dominating, they couldn't break through and it finished 0-0.
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Shinji is likely to start up front (Yuta - any news?) on is own - like he used to with Mainz. He's feeling under a lot of pressure because he didn't score in the Singapore game. And because Muto, the striker Mainz bought to replace him, is in great form and is a rival for the lone striker position.
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 The game's in Saitama - where England started their World Cup in 2002 v Sweden. Here's a clip from the same stadium of the Okazaki chant (hope the link works): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN6IWSBEifI
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 So - in the run up to kick off (7.26 local time - anyone want to start a thread about silly kick off times?), a lot of chat about the Foxy Okzi.

kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Anyone remember Shinji playing against England back in 2010? I loved reading this match report earlier: 'Spooked by Shinji Okazaki’s pesky presence, Johnson’s back-header lacked direction, whistling out for a corner.' 'The captain was as bad as the rest, Rio Ferdinand being caught out by Okazaki, the Shimizu S-pulse striker stealing in and half-volleying over.' England won 2-1 in the end.

kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Japanese boss is Vahid Halilhodzic, the Bosnian who took Algeria to the knockout stages of the 2014 World Cup. They gave the Germans a pretty good game in the last 16. He's been saying that Japanese players need to learn how to win penalties, because they don't have that 'culture'.
kingfox Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 On the evidence of this thread I think Kushiro is quite excited.
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 u On the evidence of this thread I think Kushiro is quite excited. I've just had my second lemonade..
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Japanese soccer's on a bit of a low Might go and find a stream for this...! try usagoals
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Japan football's on a bit of a downer at the moment. They got knocked out of the Asian Cup quarter finals earlier this year, after the two biggest names Honda and Kagawa missed their penalties. Honda's miss was spectacular.
LCCFox96 Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 Might go and find a stream for this...! Yup Thursday morning, no work and bored. Stream seems a good option. Go on Shinji!
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Sorry - but of a connection problem in this bar Not a lot happening in the first 10 mins
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Kagawa looking a lot sharper now he's getting regulat football The guys next to me here are predicting 3-0 or 4-0

kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Great backheel from Shinji... Nagatomo couldn't quite get his shot in
kushiro Posted 3 September 2015 Author Posted 3 September 2015 Almost number 44! Smart tun in the box but drags it wide. Actually, the Japanese media say he's already got 44 - dubious golas panel being a bit kind to him
