Spudulike Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 As one of the "older chaps", I have to agree. Filbert Street was great in many ways, but - in all honesty - it was a sh*thole that belonged to a different era. Living where I do, I don't get to many matches now, but the atmosphere at New Filbo last season was just magical - as good as anything I experienced back in the day. And I could see every bit of the pitch all of the fvckin' time! Don't know what you mean... those concrete pillars in the Double-Decker were full of character :-)

And there ways me trying to forget that I couldn't see Walshie's equaliser in the 3-3 draw against the Ar$e in 1997.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 Hopefully there's many more great memories to be had at the King Power, just like there was at Filbert Street.
thybluefox Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 There's a large dose of blue tinted spectacles when some talk about Filbert St - I have some great memories from there but you can't get away from the fact that 3 out of the 4 stands were stuck in the 70's.

People speak about the atmosphere, but looking back at old highlights, a lot of the time it was flat. The road when we score now seems much better on TV footage as a comparison. Appreciate this is based on TV footage.
whetstonefox Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 Remember going to filbert street mid 80s First Division, now premier league getting gates of 7 or 8 thousand for top flight games against the likes of Oxford, west brom and Ipswich, pure tumbleweed through the vast empty spaces, especially the double decker, yet when the 'big games' came round they'd still be 20-25 thousand, plastics were alive and well back then! Do miss standing, but as a club where we are now is potentially very exciting and we don't have to be 'embarrassed ' as such by an 'East Stand' to attract players. That said, it was our sh*thole so it does bring back many happy memories.

And if we'd have stood still then yes we may not have gone into administration, but we wouldn't have thrived either. The new stadium, although it almost killed us, is now key to us succeeding in the future.
