Jimmy Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Back in the days when we called it Freeman's Wharf. Shame that name didn't stick before it got sponsored. just call it Filbert way
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Still think the KP has way more character and background than we give it credit for.
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Some guy I knew worked on this in some supervisory role and now he is a strange recluse. Just thought I would share my story.
bovril Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 just call it Filbert way Among family and friends I still call it filbo. One saving grace of the new stadium is that it's near the old one.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Love that the ground's address is Filbert Way. It's good that it retains some link to Filbert Street.
Gold Coast Fox Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I do like the darker blue look the seats had back then.
bovril Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Seeing Basset and Elsom in one of the photos is horrifying. Insane that we started the work on a new multi million pound stadium with those two at the helm.
Spudulike Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Still think the KP has way more character and background than we give it credit for. Have to agree. As much as I loved Filbo it was a tired old place by the end that desperately needed at least two new stands (probably three) and then we'd have a virtually new ground anyway. Freeman's Wharf, Filbert Way, KP or whatever you call it has already got history in its short 13 year life. I don't remember seeing a full England international at Filbo, or seeing Brazil or Real Madrid or Barca (or going into and out of administration or playing in the third tier). It's taken a while and, to some, will never be 'home' but its getting there and already has some great memories.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Well said. Exactly, I won't be popular with the older chaps for saying this but you could argue that the KP has seen a bigger swing in quality in 13 years than Filbo did in 100 *runs for cover*.
SystonFox Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 LEICESTER LEICESTER LEICESTER! LEICESTER LEICESTER LEICESTERRRRRR LEICESTER!
NewquayFox Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Started going to Filbert Street proper in the early 70s, saw some of the best footballers in my life in that decade and the atmosphere as fantastic, but City have had an awful lot of crap players and poor sides since then, the KP is full of energy and sounds/feels great so I have to say I prefer the new ground...... Up the City........
steveherbe Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 did filbert street have clappers though Yes. Everone clapped in those days, not like todays theatre-goers ( runs for cover with Sol)
NewquayFox Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 Their was a severe strain of the 'clappers' doing the rounds in the 70s, think it originated in Nottingham....... Up the City.....
MooseBreath Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 Can't figure out why the ground shakes. I thought the spans must have been quite long/wide but they're not really.
urban.spaceman Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 just call it Filbert way I call it Filbert's Treat.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 I think this season's addition of the new blue panels around the outside of the stadium has helped make our ground look even better. Year on Year hopefully we can continue to make it feel our home again like Filbert Street. There are a few improvements I would like to see still, and I think the King Power has a lot of good potential to get even better, but certainly satisfied with it at the moment.
rico Posted 15 October 2015 Author Posted 15 October 2015 I call it Filbert's Treat. i call it the Pride of Poland
urban.spaceman Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 I've got to ask, why does the Leicester Mercury's website have to be so utterly useless and profoundly grotesque at the same time?
Nod.E Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 It's great to look at back at the development of the stadium for me.Given that I was 10 when it opened, my memory of Filbert Street is limited and I probably take for granted the fact that the KP is a new stadium which represents a new era for the club; a new era that I've pretty much grown through.I feel as though I've grown apart from Leicester in a sense. Since moving to Manchester and playing Saturday's my game time has been limited. It's nice to look back at the birth of our stadium and remember that I was there when it started. I was there when we were relegated. I was there when we came back. I was there with parents, mates - even some early girlfriends. East stand, West stand, Kop, L, N... It's a shame I seldom see it gracing the Premier League, but looking back through those pictures reminded me of the close relationship I will always have with my football club. In many ways it is iconic of my youth.A season ticket holder again I shall be. One day.
Ashley Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 Can't figure out why the ground shakes. I thought the spans must have been quite long/wide but they're not really. The ground shakes due to the structural designs. The concrete isn't secured to the beams, if it was secured the structure would just crack.
LanguedocFox Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 Exactly, I won't be popular with the older chaps for saying this but you could argue that the KP has seen a bigger swing in quality in 13 years than Filbo did in 100 *runs for cover*. As one of the "older chaps", I have to agree. Filbert Street was great in many ways, but - in all honesty - it was a sh*thole that belonged to a different era. Living where I do, I don't get to many matches now, but the atmosphere at New Filbo last season was just magical - as good as anything I experienced back in the day. And I could see every bit of the pitch all of the fvckin' time!
