Lestoh Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Were we top this October? (I may have read your post incorrectly 'incks') We were never top this season once the table was worth analysing. We did play in blue so there's another similarity Let us have it mate, despite being only a few games into the season, we were the highest ranked team in England. WE ARE MASSIVE.
m4DD0gg Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 In addition CR is likely to have mega bucks in both January and the Summer to add even more quality and depth to the team.
Guest Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 We were deceiving ourselves for half a season. It was obvious Taylor had bought shite in the summer and though the team carried on S before for the first few weeks and months gradually taylors effect got worse. Losing lennon was also huge. We were crap well before Wycombe.

We did play in blue so there's another similarity No you've read it fine, I just worded it badly. I think we were 2nd/3rd in September this year, no? Top in August? We seem to have accumulated a few more points this season than we did in the 00-01 season as well. And, looking at it again, the facts I have seem to be slightly wrong. We've been top five times since the War, twice in April 1963, once in August 1963, once in October 2000 and once in August of this year. I maintain there are some glaring similarities. The change in manager, questionable signings, great start to the season maintaining form from the end of the previous, wins by narrow margins and so on. I'm a lot more hopeful than I was back then, definitely, but it's worth flipping the coin: If we were bottom we'd rightly be saying Ranieri needs more time. We're 5th, and we'd be wise to pause to remember how the moment in the past 50 years which most resembles our start to this season went wrong, before we jump to the conclusion that it's all worked out a dream.
Captain... Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 On the flip side, how well did our most successful managers of recent times, MoN and Pearson (second spell) start out? Whereas Sven like Taylor had a good start to his career at Leicester...

st albans fox Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 In addition CR is likely to have mega bucks in both January and the Summer to add even more quality and depth to the team. An interesting side issue - if we are within striking distance of top four come January, will FFP in its revised format allow us to invest massively to try and achieve something that may not be possible again for a club of our size re champ league qualifying?
LanguedocFox Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 I watched a lot of the matches during Taylor's first season in charge, and after the first three or four months I felt in my bones that it was all a mirage. We were top in October when Man U came to Filbo and they absolutely hammered us like we were a pub team. And after that, although we got some half-decent results, we just didn't look good enough. The fundamental difference this season is not so much in the players - although I think we have got a superb squad - but in their fitness. That's the one thing we didn't have when Taylor was our manager: in fact, we didn't have it until Pearson took over. Our sports science set-up and the impact that that has on games cannot be under-estimated. and I think it will see us through to a decent top-half finish this season, and give us the impetus to push on next.

This is spot on. I too had the feeling that for all the 'we are top of the table' stuff under Taylor we weren't actually a very good side and that it was all bollox. If my memory serves me rightly we'd sneaked a few wins not by looking good but somehow or other. And the bubble well and truly burst.
TonyN11 Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 I was just flicking through an old diary of mine when I came across a page where I had stuck a newspaper clipping of the Premier League Table after 8 games in the 2000-2001 season. We were top of the league after 8 games on 16 points and still in the top 4 at Christmas. The memory plays tricks though. I thought we went down in that 'Peter Taylor season', but it was actually the season after that that we went down. We finished the 2000-2001 season in 14th position with 48 points. I guess all this is making me think that we might do well to keep grounded at the current time? Nah, screw that! I'm just loving it! This feels like a really great time to be a Leicester fan! Ah memories.. I went to Highbury on Boxing Day that season and we were beaten 6-1 I think. After the game I think we were still in the top 4! It was a season when we lost to teams that we usually used to beat or draw with under MON (Spurs, Liverpool). But we won at places that we never used to win at and haven't since like Chelsea and West Ham (oh dear). It was also the season when we had a clear run to the FA Cup semi final - only Wycome Wanderers standing in our way!
