loaning a young keeper to a lower league club isn't as easy as it might seem;

  • There's only one playing position in each club (much different to the chances of game time for an outfield player)
  • Most clubs have an established goalkeeper already
  • As a key position, most clubs will go for experience in that position - it will only be exceptional young talents that will get loan moves.
  • The more common loan for clubs would be emergency cover - but these are also becoming rarer these days.

Disappointing to read a young international player we paid money for is being denied opportunity to develope.  Who is in charge of GK Youth Development at LCFC as would be interesting to hear their views on following;

1/. when/who was last Yth GK that made it through to LCFC first team?

2/. when/who was last Yth GK that went out on loan from LCFC?

3/. why dont we loan out our young GKs like other clubs do to give them valuable experience?

4/. is lack of loan experience a factor in our young GKs not developing into 1st team keepers?

5/. how is your performance measured if we never produce any GKs through our academy/youth system?

     im sure I could also manage to produce ZERO Goalkeepers given the chance.....and I've never even played the game?

 1. Conrad Logan

2. Conrad Logan

3. Because Conrad Logan said no.

4. Conrad Logan had lots of loan experience.

5. Conrad Logan??

Apart from the contradiction in your answers to points 3&4 (he either did or he didnt?), you are quite correct sir.

However, the example of Conrad Logan merely serves to strengthen the point i was trying to make as it is now 21 years since Logan made his first team debut for LCFC and since that point in time, you are unable to provide examples of any other GK that we have developed through our system that has been given loan experience and/or progressd through to our first team.  Is lack of loan expereince one of the key reasons behind our young GKs not developing?

Therefore, i will re-phrase my question and ask in the last 10 years, why have we failed to produce any young goalkeppers, why do we not loan them out for experience and who is in charge of a system that fails to produce any tangible evidence of rewards or success?

Where is the benefit to Iversen or LCFC by refusing to let him go out on loan and keeping him playing at same level he has been playing past 2 seasons?

I cant imagine too many other employers would accept ZERO productivity over 10 years as a satisfactory return...!

21 years? He'd have been about 9 years old lol

EDIT - He played like a 9 year old so you could be right.

Chelsea currently have FOUR Goalkeepers under age of 23 out on loan playing first team football at various levels (Blakman, Collins, Baxter, Thompson)

I guess it all depends on whether you are focussed on development or results ...

:)  Oops.......that should have been 11 years.   Thankfully my logic is more sound than my maths (I think?)!
