New idea - A sea of blue and white scarves for the Kop/other stands, next season.

  1. 1. Would you like to see a sea of blue and white scarves in the stadium for pre matches at the KP, either this season or the next?

    • Yes, this would be great and would love to take part.

    • No thanks.

    • Maybe, depends on how well it would work.

I'd like this a lot, all it takes is for people to actually do it, slowly over time it will build until it's a tradition. Would love to see everyone's scarves when the teams come out, all old and new designs etc. it would look great and pretty unique in the UK.

In the title he does say kop/other stands

It's alright, originally I said just the Kop but then edited the wording to say other stands. Having the blue and white scarves across the stadium would be fantastic and would probably look even more impressive.

Yep, absolutely agree. It would be superb to make this a tradition of ours and like you said we'd one of the first clubs to do this in the UK. It would have originality about it as well. I suppose it would depend on how well it takes off from the first game of the scarves being in use, if it was to work well it has the potential to become a really popular addition to our matchday atmosphere.

It sounded great till you mentioned Hey Jude.

 . Thinking back now as the players come out the tunnel would of been a better way of putting it.

In all seriousness, if we want this to happen, I suppose I could suggest it to the club but don't think that will get me anywhere as such. They are helpful but obviously if it's only one supporter (me) emailing them, then the chances of it happening are very slim. In regards to the poll, the results suggest there is a major popularity of people wanting this to happen. For the fans who do not want this to happen, then I would suggest the best solution is that they can just clap the team as they come out onto the field, as an alternative of holding up the scarf. I'm saying that, because I wanted to ensure I've acknowledged other points of view on the subject, as I feel that's only fair.

It would best work for me, if Birch on his pre match words, was to ask the stadium to hold up their scarfs as the players come out the tunnel. No confusion, just simple stuff to maximise its visual potential. I also think if the club supplied the scarves it would work much better.

Anyone got any links to the club? If they haven't already got something planned for this season's final game v Everton, then perhaps they may consider this as a viable option?

If we are agreed that we are gonna use our own scarves rather than the club provide 30,000 all the same all you need to do is email them and ask them to put it on the website, twitter and facebook accounts. I think most people would get it then.

Im not sure it would be possible for them to get 30,000 scarves done before everton (who knows) but i think that is the match we need to do it at to celebrate winning the league (hopefully)

You're probably right, I just thought people would have what they need ready at the stadium to make it work best. I entirely agree with what you're saying but if the club decline to share it on their social media channels, then obviously it won't happen. I was hoping that the scarves could come alongside the clappers, like the flags did against QPR and Doncaster.

Its gotta be worth a try emailing them to see if its possible. I dont think money would be an issue it might just be the logistics of it as there is only like 10 days until the everton game, i agree that if they are on the seats it would be good because they would all be the same and i think it would look awsome. If they say no we will just have to try and do it ourselves. I cant see they would decline putting it out on social media, its not that hard to do and i would have thought they would want something like that but you never know

I will give them an email. I will let you and others know, what they say back to me. Even if they can't supply the scarves (I'd hope they could), us as fans could see if we could promote the idea and bring our own like you said. In an ideal world, the club would promote it on their facebook, twitter and instagram channels, this would mean so many more supporters would get to know about the idea and what's happening.

I think club supplied scarves is a non-starter, too late.

Fan purchased scarves however is a different matter, but again the club are unlikely to be able to buy 30k in time to sell. So that then comes down to fans all buying their own scarves, from wherever they can, which will mean different scarves, rather than the majority being the same.

As for promoting it, this Friday would be a great start. I'm very active on Twitter with over 1,000 lcfc followers and I know other equally active and well followed lcfc fans who would I'm sure be happy to promote the initiative. Together with BBC RL sports people and Union FS representatives.

I'm not on FB however.

Overall I think the idea is great. Just wish I had an Everton ticket!!

Ok if you email the club and keep us posted. I will have a word with union fs and see what they say.

Great work guys, many thanks for the backing on this. Union FS, Twitter promotion, BBC RL Sport will all help.

I have emailed the club on this idea and they replied saying that UFS might already have some plans for next season, and that the club & UFS will be in contact to negotiate the plans. No mention of the Everton game so presumably they've got something planned already. Thought I'd keep everyone updated.

You don't need to ask the club for permission to hold up a scarf when the players come of the of tunnel! Just do it!

I always wondered what happens to all the scarves that the various clubs give away.  Looks great on the day they hand them out, then I guess the majority of fans decide they don't want to take a scarf with them to any games.  Back when I went regually it was a staple of a matchday to take your scarf.

Being out the loop thesedays do fans still hang their scarves out of the window of the car on the way to the game?  Another tradition that always happend.

Always take my scarf, love 'em.

Me and a mate keep jokingly say we might try to make some silk scarves and see if we can get them going again.

If your too young to remember the silk scarves (cheap nylon by the way, not real silk) ask your dad.

Loved my old silk scarf   my mother ruined it the in the old type spin dryer !! the ones you had to sit on so they didn't bounce round the kitchen !!   Tassles got caught and ripped it to shreds :(  :scarf:

West Brom away was great, but it was spontaneous. The club gave out scarves but didn't (iirc) tell people to hold them up when the players came out. Then at Palace, they told people to hold them up and it wasn't as good.

It can't be forced and it needs to come from the fans rather than the club, which is why I said not to bother asking the club about it, just do it in the faith that people will join in.

I do agree with Sol thewall Bamba. The main objective for me, was to try to identify if the club would be interested in supplying the scarves so that there's more chance of all supporters getting involved, but obviously now we know the answer. You are right though about the scarves working well spontaneously, and we will have to see against Everton if this will happen where the fans bring their own scarves and we create this sea of blue. I'm not too hopeful of this going any further if it's just on here, but if the Mercury and Radio Leicester advertise it through social media etc we've got a better chance of it working.

To be honest mate I don't think you've got much chance of organising it as a one off. People are going to be too pissed/excited next weekend to remember a tweet they saw a week before. Also if you get the club to provide the scarves it's not the same, everyone's got loads of scarves at home surely?

If you want to do it, just do it every game. It will catch on slowly but surely I reckon. The worst thing you can do is advertise it massively, it doesn't work and gets forgotten about again.

TO be fair I'd imagine most fans have at least one scarf, even if they don't wear it to games.

Yeah you'd have thought mostly all of City fans have a scarf or two at home, but as Sol says I think it could be a gradual thing, not impossible however.
