TiffToff88 Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 Before i get any sarcastic comments, i have googled the problem extensively, to no avail. Right, i'm a former apprentice electirican, never finished my training as i went into a more office based role, i still do the occasional bit of PAT Testing, and this is where my problem comes from. My old CSCS card from my time as an apprentice expired a while ago, but i need a new one. obviously i'm no longer an apprentice, and i am not an electrician. I have no idea what kind of CSCS card i need to apply for. i need it for visiting construction sites to PAT Test all the equipment in the site cabins, and the lads hand tools. Any ideas?

Site labourer would cover you for that and would be cheapest. But all in all, it really doesn't matter, it will never get checked.
TiffToff88 Posted 17 June 2016 Author Posted 17 June 2016 It turns out there is a "Site Visitor" CSCS card, which may be what i need, not sure what the cost would be though
Rincewind Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 No more than £50 I wouldn't have thought. An SIA card is over £200. I know it is different but when I was out of work one of the things I was looking into was security on a building site where I would need a CSCS card. Not sure if you need one for forklifts as well. My younger brother is qualified as an electrician and has said a license is over a £1000 a year. He could rewire a house but would not be worth it. He has now taken early retirement due to ill health so this was a few years back. I went to a jobfair thing and put my name down for CSCS course but never heard from them. At it least it added something to my job search list.

You don't need a cscs card for a forklift and the licence your brother talks of isn't cscs either, that would be his registration fee with either NICEIC, Elecsa or Napit.
Rincewind Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 I was giving an example for comparison. Been a few years ago since I enquired about the course. Well it seems it. It does make things difficult for anyone with a small business or wanting to go self employed with the cost of cards and licenses. Not saying there should not be any though.
Merging Cultures Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 @@MattP I just saw Ken's signature. It has nothing to do with this thread, but that is pretty funny.
Rincewind Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 I may change it. Only meant to be a short term thing. Amused me at the time too. I like to change my sig on a regular basis.
Guest MattP Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 @@MattP I just saw Ken's signature. It has nothing to do with this thread, but that is pretty funny. It's a quote that's 100% accurate as well
Webbo Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 It's a quote that's 100% accurate as well Considering Cameron isn't standing again, it isn't much of a boast.
Rincewind Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Well it was only because it came as a surprise. I always thought Matt quite liked Cameron and defended him when others had said he was not a very nice person. Also kudos to Matt giving a great description and contemplating going through a brave act for the rest of society. A great sacrifice.
