The Head to Head Point Tally from Last Season thread

Recommended Posts

Now we've done our horrendous run of away games our next five games gave us 11 points (or 3 wins and 2 draws) last season.

These next five games is where we can really tell how our season is going compared with last year's. Not much wiggle room...

For last season's Spurs game, aren't the goals scored/conceded back-to-front?

Correct.  :revenge: amended below

Come January thejoy of the AFCON and with it Leicester loose 4 players whereas of the teams due to play against only Soton and possibly Man Itd will lose a player.

Well with Boro' switching for Norwich last season even with another late, late goal that's another -2!

Now -12 on last season! :/

So, looking at 45 points for the season.  Last season this would've put us in 13th place.

I'm basing this on having played 13 games, roughly a third of the season, and being 12 points down.

If we continue on this form then we will have 36 points less than last season.  81 - 36 = 45.

It's 'goals for' that surprises me... you'd think we'd've been awful in front of goal, but only 2 less than last year's equivalent?!

Spot on. The issue we are having isn't 'goals for'. We are about mid table for that because fortunately, Shinji and Slim are chipping in.

Its goals against that's the big difference. Last season we never got hammered. Under Pearson, we never got hammered. THIS season, we are leaking goals like a sieve.

Our two centre backs are past their best and our midfield is fookin awful. It really isn't rocket science this.

Defensively, Amartey is terrible. I mean terrible. His positioning is dire for a 'defensive minded' player.

If we are going to play him in a three, I'd be looking to have him as the player getting forward, personally. He looks better when rampaging towards the opposition penalty area. When coming back towards ours, he's sorely lacking so far this season.

+2

-13 from last season

Could get another +2  against Bournemouth and another +2 against Stoke by this time next week.

Scored 1 more goal than last season against the same opposition, conceded 15 goals more, picked up 14 points less.

Would currently be 6th based on last years results.

Are we supposed to feel relieved?

Not at all, purely for context which is useful.
