Temporary Phone for UK Visit

I shall be visiting the UK for three weeks and would ordinarily bring my own phone and buy a sim card for it. However, my phone is only 3 months old and AT&T will not unlock it yet.

So I was wondering what the cheapest alternative might be?

For example, is it easy to buy a cheap used phone and install a pay as you go sim card?

Any other ideas would be much appreciated

Pretty sure you can walk into a Tesco and get a new phone with £10 credit for about 15 quid.

This, possibly cheaper. Other retail supermarkets are available.

 

Of course this is assuming you just want to be contactable... not checking your eBay bids every 5 minutes and updating your twitter feed.

I've got a spare phone (iphone 4s) that you can borrow if you want.  I've actually got 3 mobiles.  One for work, one for me & this spare one sitting in the drawer doing nothing.  I've got to wait for a current contract to end & will be sorting out what I keep & what I bin, but that's not for a few months.

 

250 minutes & 5000 texts a month.

 

I suppose it depends on when you're coming to the UK & if you will be anywhere near Leicester to pick up.

Wow, that's very kind of you but I couldn't do that. I think I will buy a cheap one and give it to my granddaughter when I leave.

I suppose there's a few people on here I wouldn't make that offer to, but you seem like a good guy.

 

It's a genuine offer & it's no skin off my nose. 

 

Fair enough though.  I'm sure the granddaughter will prefer your idea.

Thanks for the comment pS but I'd worry about losing or breaking it. Not that I have but when it's someone else's property, Murphy's law kicks in.
