davieG Posted 20 December 2016 Posted 20 December 2016 Manchester City and Leicester City have checked up on Aldershot Town striker Idris Kanu. The 17-year-old former West Ham academy player joined National League Aldershot in October after a trial spell at Manchester United and has impressed in their first team. The pacey youngster scored his third for the club with a sublime solo effort against Boreham Wood earlier this month and is catching the eye of teams further up the pyramid, with Reading also reported to be monitoring the situation. Kanu was at West Ham’s academy last season, scoring twice in 17 appearances, and can play up front or in midfield. After his goal against the Wood Kanu penned a full-time contract that ties him to the Shots until 2019 but at that level the deal serves only to ensure the club is compensated when the player moves on and will not put off potential suitors. Aldershot boss Gary Waddock promised to help develop the youngster after seeing him sign his two-year deal. Kanu is eligible to represent England as his country of birth as well as Nigeria through his parental lineage.

Respect to Gary Waddock for putting faith in a kid by putting him in the first team, but his development would be upset by sticking him in an academy when he's getting competetive senior football experience so leave him where he is or see if you can get a first option for a nominal fee.

You can buy and loan back if it's better for his development.
