I'm thinking of starting my FA coaching badges and was wondering if anyone had done anything similar? Any tips about getting into coaching?

Approach your local club, good committed parents/coaches are actually quite hard to find as running a team can be time consuming, you may find if you help out, that they will pay to put you through at least your 1st course or 2 if they think you will stick around for a while.

Check local kids teams as in my experience they are usually crying out for help. By affiliating yourself with a club, especially if they are a FA Charter Standard Club, then the club may well pay for your Level 1 course.

I did mine at Holmes Park / Brockington College a couple of years ago. It's a very basic introduction but a lot of fun.

Much of the first part of the course deals with First Aid, Child Protection and Welfare. Then you go into the practical sessions, running drills etc (quite a lot of actual physical training to be done on these days), and then a final assesment where you conduct your own drill to demonstrate you understand the basic coaching behaviors etc

The club should be able to do your DBS Checks etc

Definitely get involved with a local club, might even be worth approaching a local non-league club as they look to run community projects and support programmes.

I'm looking to go into it as well, my brother plays for an under 12 side and my step dad is one of the coaches already so I have a team lined up. The courses fill up quite quickly and you have to do the FA first aid course before you can go on the level 1 course.

The First Aid formed part of my Level 1, but I think they do them seperately as well.

IIRC, there were three evening sessions:

1) Introduction

2) First Aid

3) Safeguarding

Then 3 (or 4?) full days practical

That looks similar to what I've been looking at, first aid included in the course rather than a requirement. Will see if any clubs need a hand too, live in thurmaston, so quite a few decent set ups near

East Goscote gunners need 2 coaches for the under 6s we have enough lads in that age bracket too form 2 teams and the current coach wants to take a drop down a year as he wants to coach his own lad next season.

Pm me if you want details to get in touch. They may help with courses.

If not. I know Syston town will pay for level 1 my mate had his paid for. No idea if they need anyone at the minute tho.
