Football is a business - Claudio knew this

Recommended Posts

Whether any of us like it or not the reality is that football these days is a business. We the fans do not pay for the football we follow any more and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Those involved are well paid for their part and know it to be a results driven business.

What they do get though if sacked is a bloomin' good pay off and as honourable as some are and I do not doubt Claudio is one of the most honourable, he will still take what is rumoured to be a £3m pay-off, and he is entitled to do so, because football is a business.

In any other form of business would you expect the owners to allow a manager to run their asset into the ground - no you wouldn't - and football is no different.

Do I like that this is football today - no I don't, I think money has ruined the game I love, but you cannot turn back the clock.

I respect our Owners for their decision, and that Claudio has accepted it with the grace he has exuded throughout his association with our club.

Like a the fish and chip wrapper we will be yesterdays news soon enough. We have broad shoulders and we can put up with the scorn we are currently experiencing as a club from the hypocrites who would have done exactly the same in our shoes, but will enjoy our pain and jump on the currently fashionable bandwagon.

That is just the dirty business that football has become.

Spot on!

If he really had wanted to, he could have resigned at Christmas showing himself as the man who put the interests of the club and its fans before his one. Had he done so, he truly would have been due the adulation.

I personally think he was angling for dismissal/pay off.

You only have to take a look at his CV to see a common theme.he got a pay rise as reward for his achievement and he's been sacked for what's happened this season,Swansea Hull and palace have all done the same if it wasn't for the title it would have happened sooner.I can't understand all the uproar.

My opinion too, (posted such in another thread) he should have walked if he wanted a truly honourable exit from the club he expressed so much love for upon his exit

We've been shocking all season. Must have played 6 halves of good football all season. 8 goals this year and without a win in the league since NYE.

He had to go.

Can anyone remember a previous season in living memory, at this stage, when we had produced so many poor performances and embarrassed ourselves so much. The fact that we are Champions and invested a net £30m in new players makes it even worse!

Do you think he may have planned this before the start of the season? The rot set in on day one against Hull, and has stayed with us.

Exactly. I'm afraid the opposition fans and the pundits don't watch us every week.

I doubt it to be fair, mind you just seen posted elsewhere that he's walking away with £3M....not a bad retirement pot for a 65 year old
