People talk about Chilwell being suspect defensively but he's ok. Lot of work to do for sure but he's only going to improve if he's given the game time. Personally, I think there's not much to choose between the 2 of them and given Chilwell's potential, I think he's ahead of Fuchs now.

Chilwell hasn't stood out for me. Yes, there's endeavour and pace, but we had that with Schlupp too. He was a bombscare at fullback and had too wayward end product as a winger. Wingback turned out to be the compromise where his weaknesses weren't as exposed and so far I see little to convince me Chilwell won't be the same.

 

And it's hyperbole to say Fuchs showed the worst collection of performances. Do you just mean from the squad at the time?

It’s natural, Fuchs is reaching  that point on the age curve whereby he’s starting to become slower and less sharp, I wish he was 26 but unfortunately he’s declining and it’s more noticeable in fullbacks than centrebacks.

Fuchs is still fine for now but we do need to be thinking about his successor, whether chilwell or somebody else. 

 

Have to say that Fuchs has to go down as one of the best free transfers of all time!
