Can you every really be established?

Recommended Posts

Leyton Orient's unbroken 112-year stay in the English Football League ended after a 3-0 defeat by Crewe confirmed their relegation from League Two.

Just under three years ago, Leyton Orient were on the brink of promotion to the Championship, before falling to a 4-3 defeat on penalties in the League One play-off final.

Relegation followed one season later, but this campaign represents a new low for one of the English Football League's oldest clubs.

As well as the ongoing managerial uncertainty, Orient are in "mortal danger" of going out of business, according to the legal adviser to their fans' trust.

Owner Francesco Becchetti has been given until 12 June to pay off debts or sell the club.

I don't understand the point. What has that got to do with being 'established'?

We're constantly seeing historic clubs ruined by shit owners yet the FA don't seem bothered. Very sad to see a historic club like Leyton Orient fall out of the football league. Blackburn, a club with a rich history, are on the verge of relegation to the third tier and yet again it's owners who don't seem bothered.

Surely the FA can oversee takeovers and have a careful look at continued progress at every club. It's all too often now. Orient, Blackburn, Coventry, Blackpool (though at least they're having a good season on the pitch)...

We've got decent owners, as have Middlesbrough and Brighton, but clubs like us are miles away from suffering lower league clubs.

Tbf Leyton Orient were a fairly established league one side until a few years ago (8 or 9 seasons spent there), then one bad season, followed by some abysmal management by their owners and they're two tiers down and in danger. Look up the divisions, Stoke have been here and midtable for, what, 10 years? A takeover and one bad transfer window and that could change as quickly as orients fortunes have changed. We've seen that with Portsmouth not too long ago either - 6 seasons in the top flight, then nearly out of business and down three tiers due to poor ownership and only just starting to make their way back.  The idea of being established is a myth - barring a select few, all clubs are one or two seasons from being down in the depths of the football league

Why is it in the interests of The FA to oversee takeovers? If those closest to the club don't ensure the clubs future then why should The FA ?

Because they are the governing body.
