Foxes1 Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 We are no. 50. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/news/the-50-best-football-teams-ever/ss-AAu2l3a?ocid=spartanntp#image=2
Izzy Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Considering this covers all domestic and national teams since football began, it's pretty remarkable that we're in there really...

Thanks for posting it I assume it's all the usual stuff about Hungary, Netherlands and Brazil from before there was much conclusive video evidence and all that hipster nonsense about how they're still the best teams ever even though Brazil 1970 would probably lose to Stoke 2017 and Pele wouldn't get in any modern team ahead of Griezmann, Cavani or Falcao let alone Messi and Ronaldo?

Bang on. Arsenal's 2003/04 invincible team was 44th while Preston's 1888/89 invincible team is 24th. No mention of the Real Madrid side that's become the first to retain the Champions League since the 80s. Brazil of 1970 is 2nd, Cruyff's Ajax is 1st, Hungary in the early 50s are 10th...

Guest MattP Posted 27 October 2017 Posted 27 October 2017 I do prefer these things to be ranked with relevance to its time though, same as they do with boxing, we all know the giant heavyweights of today would probably beat Ali and Louis etc but they aren't "greater". Teams are obviously fitter, stronger etc now but it works both ways, put Ronaldo on a pitch against a team from the 50's under their rules and he wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes. We have no idea how good that Brazil team from 1970 would be today on a perfect pitch with a ball that moves around in the air etc
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 27 October 2017 Posted 27 October 2017 Old people big up stuff way too much - "it was better in my day", bullshit. What you mean is the brain is hard-wired not to bother wasting its own space with unmemorable and bland experiences. Memories (particularly ones that can be recalled quickly and easily) are 99% of the time instances of glory or trauma. We all know footballers these days have built up so many techniques and the skill level is way way higher than the standards of yesteryear That Preston team of 1888 was fvcking dogshit compared to the Preston team of this year, guaranteed.
