People get way too obsessed with individuals when it comes to scouting.

I think people have this idea of Walsh being some sort of global explorer, wandering the back streets of European cities rooting out footballers.

Let's be honest, the reality is that he's a middle manager sat in an office at the training ground reading reports from scores of staff worldwide.

It COULD have been Walsh that first spotted Mahrez or Kante whilst at Caen or Havre but it could also have been Lucas the student placement sport scientist from Loughborough Uni looking at tackling or dribbling stats and filtering an excel spreadsheet by most per 90 minutes for his dissertation.

Crediting Walsh with the success of every signing is a bit like crediting only Ranieri for our title win, its overly simplistic.

Everton seemed to think recruiting one man would make them Leicester over night but we've spent years building this network and infrastructure and it didn't vanish when he left and it won't magically reappear if he returned.

I mean look at Diabate. Walsh has been gone how long but that signing smacks of exactly the same network we've had all along.

Apparently not.

I believe that FD was not on the club's radar but signed from a personal recommendation from Puel's son and former team mate of Diabate.

Taking that signing away, our record of unearthing hidden gems disappeared with Walsh.

Never go back. Thats the rule.  Except with Musa, announce his return!

True.

(Apart from the Musa thing).

And the reason I didn't want MO'N back when we were linked.  The legacy of one of our best eras could have been spoiled.

It never works out second time around.

hes only been gone a season and a bit, and hidden gems dont come off a hidden conveyor belt that every other club in the world but us misses.

Ndidi was more or less a hidden gem, no?

The OP was making the point that we are continuing to unearth hidden gems and gave Diabate as an example.  I was just saying that Diabate signing was not down to the club as the OP suggested but down to Puel's connections, that's all.

N'didi was quite well known and apparently tracked for a long time by ourselves and other clubs.  A brilliant signing nontheless.
