How about a Walsh/Macia dream team?

Macia having the international pull and Walsh finding the hidden gems? Yes please.

I think you can argue with it. He took time to build the teams up here with Pearson, he didn't wave a magic wand. He rebuilt us 3 or 4 times into a successful unit, usually over the space of several seasons. One summer window at Everton shouldn't mean that's forgotten (he arrived too late to impact their first summer window really).

Id possibly counter that by saying with the money available, he should have found players that could have fitted in and done well immediately at Everton. Its not an exact science of course, but hes done a terrible job up there.

That takes absolutely nothing away from his magnificent work here.

I wouldn't want him back. You just have to look at the signings Everton have made since he arrived and you could argue not one of them would interest a top six side.

Players like Bolassie and Keane have flopped and they were definitely his signings. Sigurdsson was well overpaid, Schneiderlin  has been a flop and Walcott and Tosun are probably not value for money.

His successes are Calvert-Lewin for £1.6m and Gueye for £7.6m. Pickford might be alright but he was over £25m.

He's overseen huge spending and his signings have lacked imagination and been poor value. I could probably have done a better job myself just sat on my computer and using the internet to decide on who to buy.

Indeed, like I say he's not without critisism.

My opinion last summer was that they were making too many change for it to work, they were trying to change things too quickly. You can't bring in that many people and expect them to all his the ground running. They then end up cycling through several managers because it's not worked, which adds to the problems.

You list out their squad, with the exception of a back up left back and a top quality replacement for Lukaku it's a very decent squad. As the DOF he should have put his foot down and said we do things gradually, but he's either been told to do it or he's been swept along with the tide of "ooooh new cash lets spend it all ASAP".

You are allowed to love the management team that dragged our club from League 1 to the Premier League. I'd take them back here in a heartbeat because whatever happens in the short term, we'd be in good hands and building a solid club for the long-term.

Maybe you should ask why he was sacked in the first place, seeing as every manager since has out performed him.

One won the Premier League, one recovered us from a difficult period to 12th in the league, now Puel has us 8th which would be our second best finish ever and 2 cup quarter finals.

You say youre allowed to love a management team that dragged us from League 1 to Premier League, yes I do.

I love even more people who win the biggest trophies in English football and the ones who set the highest finishes weve ever had as a club.

I aint jacking that in to reunite a team whos biggest achievements were a relegation battle and minor trophies thankyou.

And im not derailing the thread with any further Pearson talk.

And pre-empting what youll obviously say is, yes, he built the team

Its been said ten million times already, and that alone doesnt win you a league.

Bit harsh when you look at the squad he stayed up with compared to what we have now, or even what he left Ranieri.

Exactly @Donut I'd be willing to wager that Pearson, Shakey and Walsh would have us properly pushing for top 6 with this squad and the football being much easier on the eye and all. Not that Puel's not doing a decent job but I feel the club would be safer in the hands of the 'dream team'.

I see where you are coming from, but I suppose he wouldnt of too much to say on the financies

offered,and eventually agreed.

Sigurdsson,top much Payed,also IMO,but hes a good player.Keane was up for Grabs,and worth a punt.

He still is a player with potential, and could well turn out to be a good/top player.

Schneiderlein,I still say lets see..

Now @Gerrard ..Walcott and Tosun thoughts seem to lean more towards hopefull "Schadensfreude"

There is no reason why Everton Fans shouldnt look positive, towards their new additions.

If City are to carry on with this successfull return to the PL,then against top Opposition.

For me Everton have a potentially a decent squad, not any worse than our own.

I dont wish ill,of any other PL Club, they like city, sometimes have Baggage they have to carry.

Good hard, honest and quality competition is the aim of all, then the successes are even greater.

Everton like ex Champions Leicester, have been in disaray,Burnley have found the right Formular,

that still has a few good  seasons in them .Newcastle are refinding their PL feet, with a good

Manager,in Benitiz.

IMO,These 4 teams will be the ones competing for those top 5,6,7th positions next season, and

any one could set up a suprise,if Arsenal hit a wall, and Spurs cant translate that promise and realise

their potential.

Secondary roles, like those of Walsh, and Marcia, could well be those that could tip the scales,in the

summer,and further.

We will never know. All predictions.

Puel has us 8th and this is fact. Ranieri won the league and this is fact too.

I dont feel the club is in bad hands now, were going in a positive direction and for me, thats forwards rather than looking backwards at an era thats gone.

Youre entitled to your opinion and I dont discredit Pearson was a great manager. His ship has long since sailed though.

I can see the owners bringing Walsh back into the fold as Head of Recruitment for the King Power Footballing Family overseeing Leicester and Leuven. That way Walsh has an elevated role within the group, could probably base himself up in the North West as he wouldn't have day to day involvement at Leicester other than phone calls/web conferencing, and from a structural perspective would also allow Macia to focus solely on Leicester with the occasional discussion involving Walsh.

Posted

Macia hasn't done anything that warrants him losing his job yet, would be harsh to replace him.  We'll never truly know who is responsible for which signings, but the ones made under his reign (Ndidi, Maguire et al) haven't been to shabby. Even the nachoman signing makes sense long term.

I imagine our scouting department has changed a fair bit, it's a bit of a backwards step letting someone new come in, change the way things are done and then revert to what it was previously (although Walsh's formula here worked a treat).

He's clearly better at finding hidden gems and working wonders on a tight budget. In his latter days with us and at Everton where he had a significant budget and higher expectations, he's had more misses than hits. For that reason I think he'll end up at somewhere like West Brom and end up doing a great job. No doubt this Everton stint is a massive blot on his copy book.

If Walsh is let go in the Summer, don’t expect him to take any job.

His brother Mickey, whose the agent of Nige and Shakespeare is recovering from a stroke. It’s through him that a lot of our targets are based around Portugal - look him up and you’ll see why.

Could be sooner than that .........

A recent rumour was that West Ham were after Macia. If that move was to happen, I'd gladly have Walsh back in a Chief Scout role. He had some misses but his record was mostly excellent.

As DoF, who knows? His time at Everton hasn't gone smoothly, but then I imagine he was at odds with Koeman and who knows else over some transfers, which would explain why they brought in Siggy, Rooney and Klaasen in one window.

Plus the way Everton are run is an absolute shambles. Look at how long it took them to replace Koeman. They also appear to have no idea of what kind of team they want to be.

The DoF question is moot anyway. I reckon the Thais are very loyal to Rudkin, especially as he's involved with other aspects of their businesses as well now. I don't see Rudders leaving that post anytime soon.

Walsh moved north to be nearer his family, he must be coming up to retirement age.Why do people assume he'd want to come back?
