I remember cars driving on the ice at Groby pool, Davey, though it may have been the winter of '63.

 

I also watched the 'Troc' burning down a year or two after that photo was taken.

The cattle market in 1979

Cattle Market I979

 

Used to go there, walking form Welford Road down through the allotments down to Aylestone Road in my early teen to watch the cows being killed, they used to shoot them in the temple then stick a straw like object in to get rid of any final movement. Ugh don't think I'd like to watch that now but fascinated back then.

I remember the cattle market from when I was at Southfields College in the early 80s. We used to pop over there at dinner times. The pub there, which I think is now the Counting House, is the only pub I've  been in that actually had sawdust on the floor.

I did day release there too . . . 

Unfortunately thats what I did , one day - I didn't realise it meant one day every week for 4 years

I used to do 13 weeks a year, on and off, block placement and 2 nights a week all year.
