YesNdidi Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 If that’s true and they’re really demanding €60 Million then we should just walk right out of the negotiations absurd amount of money for a player of his quality 1 1

Not sure they'll accept that.

I wouldn't call them panic buys, but it's not far off. These types of signings are much more associated with a team trying to stay in the League, rather than push for 7th IMO. I'd really rather not bother if that's the case and go with what we have. Three positions behind Vardy and we have Albrighton, Gray, Iheanacho and Maddison competing for those places. Failing that we still have Okazaki and Diabate to back them up with the likes of Chilwell who has also played there before. Januzaj is a failed prodigy who will be 24 in six months. He failed at Man Utd, Dortmund and Sunderland when he was too lightweight for English football. An alright season for Real Soceidad and now we'll end up nearly quadrupling their €8.5m they paid for him last summer. 2

If you read Sunderland views on him, apart from the usual bitter hatred of a player who is part of a relegated team.. There are many posters saying that he was clearly the best player they had, and on his day, was a game changer etc. I think he obviously believed his hype when he received so much praise bursting onto the scene at Man U. I'd imagine leaving them, was a bit of a wake-up call for him and that's why he had arguably his best season yet over there. I thought he looked decent in the WC too and scored a corker against us. I'm more excited by this than Rachid, but of course the fee has to be appropriate. I actually disagree with you and I'd prefer to have him here, than just go with what we have. What we have, I don't believe will be good enough. I'm concerned Albrighton won't be able to rediscover his form from 2 seasons ago, Diabate has looked pants in pre-season and we have no guarantees that Gray will finally make that consistent break-through. Okazaki is clearly slowing down and offers no real goal threat or creativity and although I rate Iheanacho as a no.9 and 10, that still leaves us with only Maddison with that bit of star quality and flair. If it's a choice of going with what we have from those options, or spending £20m on a clearly talented player who at 24 could still make a big impact and is showing signs of doing that again, then i'd go for the latter.

I don't want us to get in the territory of panic buying on a player who probably won't improve the first XI.

I think he does. He would go straight into the starting 11, but he is still a punt for sure so can see your concern. 1
Nick Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 (edited) I think he fits the bill fairly nicely in many ways to be honest. He’s not my first choice but I do think he’ll do well for us as he’ll create space and draw defenders away from Maddison and Vardy. I’d rather be going into the season with him than without.
