Snobs have rolls,  and only say I am "arriving"..when having an orgasm.

Though in Leicester and North if it's rolled,we call it a roll, and a con is a cob.Small or cob loaf...

when I first went to London,as an adult,I asked and pointed to a cob cheese n onion, the lady said "you mean roll",I said "no,

A roll is the long thing with ham next to it"..,"but they are both rolls" she said...I sarcastically replied "are swan males also called rolls,"

another guest a teacher started to laugh, and told me,"you can't civilise these southerners,I have been trying for 20yrs."

He was from Lancashire... but with now(then) a more refined accent, though he dropped his braces and spoke then in a Lancashire twang.I

Just for a laugh....

We both agreed,in the name of unwritten etiquette how the so called educated, abuse the Language because of crude soundings, and

rename old readily used words.  Before the wars even in the east end and on stalls, the bread  loafs or babs/cobs held their original

Names..because of form and shape...

Of all European languages, even with their new changes for old, over the decades it seems never changed words for etiquette

or on for want of a better word snobbish grounds....I

My German, m-i-law,with old and antik  Allemagnen word skill, plus my older  B-i-law an exteacher, from an older Black foest farm

Family, did say some names and words and spelling thereof, has changed/forgotten over the years..but not for any society-class reasons.

Ditto in French...

I just thought I would throw a bit of QI  in, cos I can't get to Cardiff and enjoy cheese on toast, ../ katherina Jenkins  sorry welsh rarebit...:D

“ snobs have rolls “ Surely it’s just where you are from and you just fit in accordingly. If I was in Leicester ordering, obviously a foie gras roll and they said it’s a cob,I would just say yes, because I wouldn’t want to sound like a Twat.

Rolls are rolls ,cobs are cobs...!!!  Old bakery trade

Traditional east-midlands,sorry. Midlands!!I

Including the north.   Being a twat,is accepting incorrect selling in the gastronomy..

If you asked for an Irish coffee...you wouldn't want them to bring a cup of coffee, and a separate glass of Irish whiskey..now would you!!

Which has happened to me on several occasions,in renowned eateries/restaurants...

It's not about being unpleasant, one can speak to waiters and chefs...

We have sold out our traditions long ago, that we have no real old markets, like we used to!! The great Leicester market has died...

Funny thing is people love going abroad to France,Italy,Spain,etc.....for market treats...Treats and traditions we exchanged for plastic..

For convenience sake...and pull away from W.class traditional sales and trades. Other countries are still proud of their tradesman and

Old Traditional food Merchants ,even in the high class restaurants foodstore. The UK has shunned and looked down on these proffesions,

Now trying through the back-door to rekindle, the old farmers markets, including old bakery traditions, and old cheese maturing methods..

I'll carry on being a twat...no probs!!:teehee:

I wasn’t be too serious btw.

in the Fens and I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before .some of the old words have a little story behind them.

one of my favourites is “ Docky”

A lot of people still use it,it means lunch.Farm labourers were docked pay if they stopped for lunch and so carried a woven bag with a handle “ Docky bag” that could hold lunch, broth and no need to stop.

Apologies for the hijacking of the thread btw
