Comparison of Time Given to Young Players in the Premier League

These stats would only have more substance if he was purposely looking to find and play younger players. Apart from Hamza in for either Iborra or Silva I cant see many great moves to promote youth from the development squad to date. The likes of Chilwell, Ndidi and Gray were part of the first team squad already whilst Maddison was a big money signing. Barnes coming back is more a panic move due to lack of creativity and goals from our midfield.

Dont get me wrong Im glad he isnt the type of manager to go buy older players for the sake of it but he has inherited some very good youngsters and the team mostly picks itself.

Tbf it’s not that we are too, but we are top by almost double everyone else, in the PL that’s ridiculous. Credit Puel when it’s due, he’s a boring bastard but this deserves credit

I'm sorry, but the stats don't have substance? The manager has clearly stated what the clubs long term vision is in terms of promoting youth, he's a manager known for promoting youth and you think it's somehow a coincidence we have double the amount of minutes to young players over anyone else.

The team doesn't pick itself, the manager picks the team. He chose to play Chilwell, soemthing nobody seems to want to give him credit for despite many of the same people saying he was shit and should be loaned to the championship in the summer.

He decided to give Hamza minutes, he decided to call back Barnes. The club decided to replace Okazaki with a young talent in Maddison and we've decided to buy young players like Benkovic with the future in mind.

Next season the under 23 minutes played will be huge. If you think that's a coincidence and not a thought out plan by all involved, then wow.

Gray wasn't, and Chilwell hardly was at the time. I do agree that Maddison and Ndidi pick themselves for him however.

He's done a reasonable job, it's pretty much on par so far but we've definitely not overachieved.

I don't want this to go into another Puel bashing debate, but you selected one line from my post about Puel bringing through youngsters.

So by what perspective do you think he hasn't overachieved in the context of my full post?

I would have thought taking over a team close to the relegation zone, full of aging players, with a manager saying how pleased he was with a point at Huddersfield, and turning it into a top half P/L team, keeping well clear of the relegation zone, whilst bedding in several young hungry players, getting them on long non release clause contracts, getting shot of some overpriced poor signings, and signing some of the most exciting young players, again on long non release clause contracts already shows a decent level of achievement.

Yes, I get his press conferences are dire, but mine would be too, with the moronic questions asked, and yes I get we are very inconsistent and often the performances are poor, but this comes with the bedding in of a new style, and of younger players who are always prone to mistakes and poor decisions.

I would say the underachievers this season have been our more experienced players who have not led by example, or managed games better, like Wolves & Newport (away) and Cardiff, Southampton, Everton, (home), all games we should have taken positive results from if our experienced players had taken a grip on the excited youngsters and managed those games better. No wonder Puel is fazing the older players out, and long may that continue.

I don't see any lack of ambition in Puel, quite the reverse. I see it very differently, that he is building something good. I'm happy to see where he takes us, as long as the players are playing for him and we are well clear of the relegation zone.
