Apologies if in the wrong forum

Either I've got a great memory or a wild imagination

Does anyone recall an old 70s TV show whereby opposing teams took each other on in various skill based competitions such as keepie ups, penalties etc.

I'm sure we won the final show by defeating St Mirren but can't remember the name of it to save my life, Google isn't very helpful, keeps pointing me to Star Soccer.

Cheers

Think you're talking about 'All in the Game'.

Yes I'm sure we won it one year, but can't find any footage, just this YouTube clip of Bristol City -

Yes we did win it one year. I think it was around 1976/77. Helped very much by having the great Frankie Wortho in the team.

It was “All in the game” and apparently it was us and Man City in the final in the second series in 1977. I can vaguely remember Wortho being the most skill full player in the series and Steve Kember having a nightmare in a round where you had to navigate around obstacles while keeping the ball up in the air?

Got a feeling Derek Hobson was involved, though I could be wrong. Also seem to remember Brian Moore doing commentary.

There was a 'beat the wall' section where you had to...well, you get the idea. And something where Steve Kember chucked balls to Frankie standing in the D who then volleyed them into the net.

Actually I thought the format was pretty good - a competition by teams of football skills. And it was the only thing we won for years. Just before the McLintock era as well.

Haven't though about it for years. Good memories.

Thinking more about it, I think it was Alan Dicks, the Bristol City manager who came up with the idea.

Seem to remember the final was at Ashton Gate?

Wasn't Hugh Johns involved with the commentary too?  Seem to remember it being regionalised before the finals.

Hugh Johns - the voice of Midlands football on Sunday afternoons back then. Certainly the kind of thing he would have done,  though must admit my memories are pretty hazy.

Just remember being absurdly happy about winning it. Let's face it, we didn't have much else to cheer us up at the time.

Can't really remember where the rounds took place, though I've got half a memory that the first one might have been at Filbert Street? Pretty sure the final was at Ashton Gate though.

Think Derby, QPR and Man City were involved as well as Bristol City.

Me too. Oh for the exuberance of youth!

I have a vague but hazy memory of us beating Leeds. Might be wrong though.

I used to watch that show as a kid...

I may have dreamed this part:-

Frank Worthington had his back to the ball and is combing his hair...

...as the ball approaches he turns and controls it and starts doing a keepy uppy routine!

Apologies to gatecrash this thread.

but there was another club event in the early nineties to see who had the fastest sprinters. Sure we had Paul Kitson running for us?

anyone remember this show?
