Darth Fox Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 I reckon a striker coach wouldn't be a bad idea for Leicester to help solve the goalscoring problems we have. I'm using Ally McCoist as an example as since he joined the Scotaland coaching staff Scotland have scored in all but 1 match I beleive and 6 goals in 3 games vs Italy, Norway and Slovenia show's that he has made a difference. Someone who can show the players we have the tricks of the trade and become a popular memeber of the staff. I'll probably be slated for this suggestion but I reckon it has some sense about it. Levein is a defender at heart and he is more tailored to coaching that side of things and maybe needs some help.
Milky Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 i think it is more to do with the managers tactics than a specific strikers coach. scotlands upturn in form and the goalscoring stakes is mainly down to the new manger walter smith, as he has transformed the side with his style of play. macoist may have played some part, but i would say it is mainly down how the manager sets up the side. it might be worth a go though. Ric Flair Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 I'm surprised that we haven't got a striker coach or a coach that concentrates purely on finishing. We probably have, but he's obviously pretty shite. It's not always the case that a good striker from his playing days will be a good coach though, but Levein could do worse than get on the blower to Tony Cottee. We have a very experienced striker in Dion Dublin and you think he could teach the strikers how to score but obviously not, perhaps it's the fact that some of our strikers are appalling. Darth Fox Posted 14 November 2005 Author Share Posted 14 November 2005 Cottee would be great or Stan Collymore. Even John Robertson(the Hearts one) would be a good shout as he's unemployed I believe and was similar to McCoist.
Brenfox Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 I would be interested in that. After seeing you smash the light on Sunday with one of your fine efforts i think you can be counted out.
lcfcsoul66 Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 How about getting Alan Smith, Tony Cottee or Stan Collymore to do it? They were all natural goalscorers and haven't really got anything better to do! (Well apart from Sky or Hollywood Films!)

As soon as he put on a white shirt we knew we were doomed. F'ing waste of space.

They're not even in the same league! It's alright blaming the coaching, but if they haven't got the right tools and all that jive.....

To be fair Robertson was a quality striker in sweaty land, he scored a hell of alot of goals as did McCoist.
Bert Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 Get Ian Rush in, did a great job at Liverpool with their strikers, not sure if he is still there though.
Scow Posted 14 November 2005 Share Posted 14 November 2005 I think it's a decent suggestion. I think we possibly need someone who is solely dedicated to improving the technique of our respective strikers. Despite MDV's 8 goals, he still fluffs a number of easy chances. Hume has wasted a few, and Hammond, well, in the words of Chris Kamara: 'Unbelievable'

Thracian Posted 15 November 2005 Share Posted 15 November 2005 Cracking idea Darth Fox. Don't particularly fancy Ian Rush (quality striker though he was) but Cottee, Collymore etc do have some appeal. Levein will be making a bad mistake if he believes he can do the job. It's a specialists work, and bloody hard work with our lot. If such a man can make a goal a game difference then City could unquestionably make the play-offs. Levein should think carefully about it. Success is often about dotting the i's and crossing the t's. It's about detail... Endless attention to detail.
