Blanderson's Mercury column refers to the idea of moving Maybury across to left-back - and I really wish there was a law about journalists putting daft ideas into people's heads.

It's taken weeks of unnecessary time convincing the manager of what was patently obvious from the start - that Nils was no left back - and now there's mention of another player being moved out of position.

Where's the logic in that? We'd be back where we started and wasting more weeks on a makeshift repair that would quickly fail.

Sheehan should play tonight and what is just as important is that the fans should show their confidence in him and give him all the encouragement he will need.

I have sung his praises (to some people's irritation) for weeks and believe he can be one of the best attacking full-backs the club has ever had.

But that doesn't mean he can't have a bad game occasionally. So I'd like the manager and the fans to make sure he gets a fair and extended chance to make the position his own. Something like six games. He must have wondered what on earth he did wrong to get dropped after the win over Wednesday and he doesn't need any more of that.

He needs to know that the club has faith in him. Not that he'll be punished for the occasional error.

Sheehan, like Stearman is important to the future of our club - both are excellent attacking defenders.

Let us help to see they both fulfill their promise because the benefits could be exciting.

There certainly won't be any long term benefits to playing people out of position.

Blanderson can keep his opinions to himself, I agree, with the players we have there is no need for Maybury to play as LB!! CL will lose alot of faith with me and alot of fans if he doesn't play a LB (Sheehan) in the LB position!!

No arguments from me on that score. I think playing Maybury at left-back is admitting defeat. Surely Sheehan or Gilbert should have the opportunity as they are specialists in that position?

I reckon Stearman, Maybury and Sheehan ought to play in the same team, if not now, then in 12 months. The question is how to accomodate all three in a bog-standard 4-4-2?

Just speculating but you could play 3-5-2 with our personnel, particularly if Smith returns to Arsenal, or you could play Stearman in central defence - certainly in a central three.

How well it would work I don't know but if might be something the club could experiment with in training.

Trouble is that 3-5-2 so easily becomes 5-3-2 and I don't think we'd want to go down that sort of road again,

The most obvious opportunity would come via an injury I suppose but, like others, while I think Stearman is our best left back I'm not sure he's ready for centre-back and neither is Levein.

I'd be happy with a 3-5-2 - Maybury and Stearman could play either way around at right centre-back and right wing-back.

As long as we play 4 at the back, the doors going to be closed to Stearman at centre-back for a while. Paddy and Paddy (Phil and Grant) have things covered there with Nils and Dion (Hinge and Bracket) CL's favoured cover.

Will Levien bottle it though and put an experienced player at left back what with Smudger only being 18/19 himself?! Let's hope he goes for Sheehan as it could be lethal down that left side if so.

CL has been going on about playing more attacking footy and says he is not bothered about the opposition, so it makes sense him playing one of the LB (sheehan\gilbert). If not (play maybury as LB)then in my opinion, he has just resorted to his cautious\defensive style of play!!

I was doing backing vocals *laaaaaaa* :)

If i was him, i`d be banging on the managers door with a sledgehammer to inquire about the LB role, if i felt i wasnt being listened to, i`d ask for a transfer. THATS how good he is, and how stupid this has become *laaaaaaaa*.

*sheehans here, sheehans there, sheehans every facking where, tra la la laa, la la laa, la la*
