I remember quite a few years back when my daughter (who is now 41) was about 12. We went to a restaurant in Bath ,me my wife and my daughter.

I noticed at the end of our meal that the young waitress who looked after us was tearful. I asked her what was wrong and she told me another one of the tables she tended to had done a runner and that the money lost would be taken from her monthly salary!!

I paid that bill and remember to this day how good it made me feel. My daughter has never forgotten it.

And I'm sure the waitress would remember that too. The older I get the more I realise that the simplest gestures can leave lasting impressions. I'm sure your gesture although extremely generous didn't cause you any financial hardship but would've made a huge difference to the waitress

Reminds me of when I went on holiday with my mate, his Dad, and his Dads GF when I was about 16. We went to Croatia for two weeks and after a week I'd spent all my money. 

 

I couldn't muster up the courage to ask my mate or his Dad to lend me some money, so I ended up pouring my heart out to a couple from Burnley at breakfast. They obviously took pity on me and gave me about £200 for the rest of the holiday. I asked for their address so I could send it back once we got home, but they were having none of it. Just told me to enjoy myself and not worry about it.

 

Still remember their act of kindness all these years later...

Bloody hell! I bet you could've bought a house in Burnley for £200 when you was 16
