I think it’s pretty standard for girls football at academy level. The money just isn’t there yet. It’s not just us, other clubs charge and RTC’s also charge about £250 a season. It would be nice but I guess clubs need to see more of a return, I guess the sales of players from the boys academy helps fund their costs.

These letters were sent out a few weeks back, long before the lionesses success so it’s a bit cynical to suggest the legacy is finished, maybe their success will bring change for the following season.

My daughter played for LCWFC academy for a few years and it was £300 a season, they didn't ask for it all I'm one go, but it wasn't much more than paying subs for a normal team. They got a full home and away kit, and loads of training gear, more than £300 quid retail!

It's a very professional set up and they are very committed improving the women's game. I didn't agree with everything though as a lot of the age groups actually play in boys leagues and get mostly hammered, some losses in excess of 20 goals, could count the number of goals scored on one hand, very soul destroying for young girls! They said it was to help their development, which you could see, but a lot just got frustrated. They seemed concentrate a lot on fitness, tactics, shape etc. They didn't see much of the ball at their feet though!

I do think they need to branch out though with their scouting etc as I got the impression that a lot of the kids and parents were very Middle class, not sure if this might be comparable across the women's game perhaps, but none I knew were exactly from the leicester ghettos, the parents didn't even seem to understand the basic rules of football at times, it was like they hadn't ever seen a football match played! Really odd.

I think the standards have risen over the last year since they merged with the rtc as I believe it wasn’t uncommon for some of the girls teams to regularly dish out beatings to the boys teams last season. I think the physicality, speed of play and thought really helps the girls out playing against boys.

Easy to say when you're not paying it. Why should they?

tbh, I have zero interest in women's football, but I do think its right from a m/f equality point of view.

The same journo did a piece on the same subject 3days before this 1 where he quotes numerous clubs that charged, didn’t mention Leicester in that piece and probably only rehashed this 1 because a dad brought it up.

1 of the clubs was actually charging £50 per month.

Its not right and I’d imagine it won’t be for long

The mens team pay for kits as well.

Can’t you remember someone realised this after they kept throwing their shirt into the crowd every game.

But it isn't equal. As explained, the mens academy has the benefit of, following investment, bringing in millions of pounds in loan, transfer fees or representing the club itself in a highly funded Premiership.

The women's team don't,  yet are already in receipt of great facilities and certain financial backing possibly. Our male business model is supposedly striving through the buying and selling of players to be self sufficient. Leicester City isn't a charity and they choose how to spend and account for their money. The ladies team are very fortunate to perhaps get what they're getting. It's down to them to strive to get their own sponsorship like thousands of other mens amateur or grassroots teams all over the country and should be encouraged to stand on their own two feet.
