It would cost you a lot more than 1K as well for a decent one you're probably looking 3-5k that size. 

This is true, but a "well-maintained" lawn made of real grass is hardly much better ecologically

 

Speaking personally, give me a rich and varied blend of flowers and semi-long grasses over something "manicured" and watered at great cost any day. The food webs on which we are dependent might be thankful.

My lawn is infested with ants, there is an excess of 10 ant nests which is causing the lawn to have mounds.

 

Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

You'd love my garden mate. Looks like a section of wild scrubland. Not sure the neighbours are as impressed.

I've taken to referring to it as my Pollinator Friendly Area. It's quite bad.
