Collymore Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 I've always roasted them myself, got some that I was gonna have with my lunch, roasting would take to long so has anyone ever had them boiled? What are they like? Should I just make the effort of roasting them?

Hot Tip of the day: Part cook them by boiling for a while, not all the way and then finish them off by roasting, it will take less time.

That’s a good idea Davie.....what you thinking...5 min's in the saucepan, 15 in the oven? I might even try gas mark 9, never been in that territory before. ...also just read that a bit of salt added when boiling can make the difference.

Guest Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 I hear the Devil is quite partial to the odd parsnip. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

Head Honcho Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 They are awful boiled. You gotta stick them in the oven and halfway through cooking lightly drizzle them with Honey. .....or buy Aunt Bessy's frozen one's.

cisono Posted 28 November 2005 Posted 28 November 2005 I have never understood the British fascination with unimaginative and uninspiring vegetables like parsnips...
davieG Posted 28 November 2005 Posted 28 November 2005 I have never understood the British fascination with unimaginative and uninspiring vegetables like parsnips... Roasted parsnips are wonderful, surely it's the taste that matters not what you imagine them to be or what they inspire you to do Oh well each to their own. PS I'm not fascinated by them I just like them.

Not sure what else you would do with parsnips but use them in your roast Hmm ok perhaps it's because I have never tried them in a roast (actually never tried them full stop). It's just that they seem to have high shelf coverage in shops... more that seems necessary

Dont knock it, its kept many a family going through a hard winter.

As I say, it's probably because I don't have many roasts... will add a little parsnip to it next time and see what it tastes like.
