Frank Large was a cult hero at Filbert Street in the late 1960s. Sadly, Frank died in 2003, but last week his son Paul, from his home in Ireland, spoke at length to Club Historian John Hutchinson about his father’s nomadic career in football before, during and after his time at Filbert Street.

I remember him absolutely terrorising the Man City defence in the second half of an FA Cup replay in Feb '68. City won 4-3 after being 2-0 down. Frank scored 2, Fern and Nish the other two. It was one of those fantastic nights under the lights at a rocking Filbert Street. We talked about the game for ages afterwards at school. Man City went on to win the league that season too.

A week after we signed Large, we bought Len Glover from Charlton. Love this report in the Mercury:

Len Glover, the Charlton winger that Leicester hope to sign for a record fee, arrived in the city this morning with his fiance, Miss Carol O'Connor. Their train was 50 minutes late, which meant that by lunchtime, Miss O'Connor was still awaiting the chance to see Leicester and its surrounds. Much might depend on whether she likes the city or not.

£80,000 .. what a bargain.

Wasn't Frank Large signed as a replacement for Allan Clarke?

Frank went to Fulham from Leicester as part of the deal when we signed Clarke.

Clarke lived in Glenfield and his house was on my paper round.

Going back to Dynamark's post, he is correct: it was quite a misty night and, to top Man City's woes, I seem to remember that their coach was delayed getting back that night.

Ah yes, remember now!!...was a few years ago 😁!

Loved that era, football was magical to me then and we had some wonderful players who were dedicated to LCFC!!

Allan Clarke sadly wasn't one of those dedicated to the club.
