Shohei Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to get 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.

Did it in style too going 6 for 6 with 3 homers, 10 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

Dodges won the game 20-4.

Ridiculous figures.

He actually took that 50th stolen base home with him!

Guardians clinch the playoffs and should wrap up the AL Central this weekend.  :yahoo: Just a half game back of the NY Cashmans for the best overall record and home field in the AL.  A pleasure to watch them all season, for the way they play and the joy they take in it.  I've watched much more talented Cleveland squads over the years, but none I loved any better.

Unbelievable work by Vogt and the coaches to get those kids to this point.  You almost expected the cop outside the locker room to bust in and arrest them for being too young to have cigars and Champagne.

They release the playoff tickets to STHs today.  Each whole strip will run $2500 in the view boxes (upper deck, the best moderately priced seats).  Ouch.

You may have commented on this already in the past, but how did you feel about the name change? To me Cleveland will always be the Indians, in much the same way as NFL's Washington will always be the Redskins. I always saw those original names as nothing less than a full respect and appreciation of history.

Terrible choice of name. I'm guessing it's something to do with the president residing in Washington and being the commander-in-chief. Whatever the reason, it's rubbish. And it replaced the iconic 'Redskins'. Criminal!

I understood them getting rid of the Chief Wahoo logo on the unis and merch.  Even though I could (and often did) draw it from memory by the time I was 8.  It was an obnoxious old cartoon whose time had passed.

Never understood or agreed with the name change itself.  Unlike Redskins, there's nothing pejorative about Indians.  At least Guardians does relate to this city, unlike Indians.  And I have more important things to do with my life than get wrapped around the axle over a team name.

I rarely called them the Indians anyway -- so that habit was easy to break.  But I still seem to call them the Tribe more than the Guards.

FWIW, a friend who knows a board member told me when all was said and done, the Dolans felt the change was not worth the trouble.  Don't know if that is still the case.

p.s. GO PACKERS!  If they can finish above Jerry, Dak & Co. with Malik Willis, that will be quite a story.

p.p.s.  If you've ever been to the Washington Navy Yard or Crystal City during the work day, you might think Commanders is indeed a Washington thing.  Crawling with Navy O5's and O6s doing God knows what.  Thousands  of senior officers to run a 300-and-some ship Navy   :nigel:

It’s pretty damn cool to witness a guy that’s already done so many unprecedented things in his career continue to find more and more new achievements.

Not for a Giants fan. :revenge:

Mets into the play-offs after winning the first of their 2 final games at the Braves today. Crazy game, Mets trailed by 3 going into the top of the 8th, racked up 6 to lead 6-3, only to give up 4 in the bottom of the 8th to trail 7-6. Then Lindor hits a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th for a Mets 8-7 lead, which they managed to hold on to. Now Braves need to win the 2nd game of this double-header to clinch their place in the play-offs. Hope they don't as I'd rather seen the D-Backs in there

That 1st game was incredible

Feel for the Brewers but what a 9th inning for the Mets. Pete Alonso facing his possible last ever at-bat for the Mets, slams a 3-run go ahead homer. First guy in history to hit a go-ahead homer whilst trailing in the 9th inning in a postseason all-or-nothing game. The Amazin' are back

Mets doing it late again. After being shut out in 7, 5 runs in the 8th at the Phillies to lead 5-1.

Watching the Tigers v Guardians ALDS decider. Just when Skubal was looking imperious v Guardians, gives up a grand slam to Lane Thomas. On the previous pitch he hit the batter with bases loaded to give up his first run in over 28 innings. That grand slam will live long in the memory of Cleveland fans.

Very pleased for @KingsX

Couldn't ask for better series as a neutral... the while world must be rooting for a Mets/Guardians World Series!

Teams left in the playoffs ranked by payroll size: #1, 2, 3, and 23.

If you're not pulling for my Guards, you're either a New Yorker, or a sicko still celebrating Man City's court "victory"

Unfortunately I'll be in Chicago for two of our three ALCS home games, so can''t go.  But I've been to my share of playoff games v the Yanks, and the ballpark will be full of their fans.  "Entitled" doesn't begin to describe them.  Cheaper for them to fly/stay here and buy tickets off Seatgeek than to buy seats at Yankee stadium.

Not my team, but don't mind the Mets. Always liked Mike Piazza especially in his battles with Roger Clemens who I never liked, even though he pitched for the Blue Jays at one point.

The Mets '86 WS against the Red Sox who were one-out from breaking THE curse is the stuff of legend. And I love the film 'Frequency' and its '69 Mets back-drop. If you're not from the U.S. you're allowed to have soft-spots for other teams 🙂

Mets tie it up at 1-1.

You intentionally walk the opposition's most dangerous player (Lindor in this case) to load the bases, and the next guy up hits a grand slam. Love it when that happens!

What an ending last night, Guardians pulling it out of the fire! 5-3 down in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, Yankees celebrating with the series looking all but over.  Clutch 2-run blast to tie it up, then another in the 10th to walk it off. I'm sure @KingsX is delighted, @Jordan not so much. Now win these next 2 home games please Guards, that'd make it mighty interesting for the neutrals..

Y'all solved Clase.  He may have to develop a third pitch over the winter and spring training.

Too many closers getting paid millions for having a 100mph fast ball and not much else
