Partly the opportunity cost we would incur by spending wages and our second PL loan spot on someone who isn't particularly good, partly him being yet another signing who wouldn't necessarily improve our first team, partly him being another wide player whose game is more about work rate than goals or creativity when we already have Ayew, Reid and McAteer. He is probably better than the last of those but I wouldn't say there's any real reason to think he's an improvement on the first two or on Buonanotte.

Even in our current position I would really like to believe we can do better, which I accept might make me a fantasist but if the alternative is accepting this is the quality of signing we are pinning our hopes on then I would prefer to remain in my dream world.

I have to disagree about not improving our first team currently.

With Abdul out all season, we have very limited pace up top…..Almiron (currently has that).

I am 100% in agreement about not wanting to sign the lad as we already have Ayew, Reid clogging up squad spaces but Almiron for 5 months is an upgrade on Ayew, Reid and McAteer.

Trust me, I want the Brighton scouting (we even did it first with Walsh and Nige) but this season is solely about finishing 17th or above.

For me, the bigger issue is our scouting/DoF set up seems too far removed from the Brighton model but that’s a different story.

we’re not far away from it, we just aren’t doing it well.

We wanted oreilly and soule… because their stats were great.

We signed random players like okoli and bilal… we just aren’t currently doing it as well as them.

Great point we also though signed Reid, Ayew and Skipp that wouldn’t have been on their radar in the slightest.

Then there is our mismanagement on contracts on a whole new inept level IMO.

Cos Jacob Murphy has stepped it up!

And people would probably turn their nose up at him and claim he's not good enough for us.

He has 0.21 goals and assists per 90 in the Premier League. Ricardo Pereira has 0.22.

Ayew is at 0.27.

Even the famously unproductive Demarai Gray was at 0.31.

A nearly 31 year old winger so unproductive is a signing that deserves relegation.

Signing three 30+ unproductive wingers in a season would be some going

Well you say that but they signed lallana, Milner and Welbeck… they also realise you need to sign a few experienced pros. the situation we are in financially does mean we have to pick up a few like that. Obviously we don’t want to see it too often but we weren’t going to get any starter in for the money we spent on those guys and we have an instant need for impact. Whereas they are safe and growing so can spend the 8m we spent on ayew on a young south American talent that they can be patient with.

Great point but once again the difference between those three compared to say Ayew and Reid.

Welbeck signed on an initial one year deal with triggers, Milner the same.

Lallana was the only one not signed on that basis on a three year deal.

A huge difference again between those three and Ayew and Reid is the obvious what experience they’d bring from a culture perspective and standards.

One set had played for United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City.

The other set have Bristol City, Fulham, Swansea and Palace.
