the trick with most of the code ones is to do them backwards, cause the exam setters make them unique that way round so you can see quickly which one it is! lazy bastards!

Got 45, and I agree with you mr c, the last section is ridiculous. Took me longer to do the last 5 questions than the rest of the test. Very hard for 11+ tho.

Made me think a fair bit, i think i know one of the ones i got wrong, it was about Simone and how any gold stars he had, i worked out that NONE of the answers could work :S so had to guess :S

yea but it also says, if it is true, one must work. So you have to assume the information is right. Otherwise you could say any of them work due to some random law of maths :P

Guessed the last section completely and a section earlier on so got 34 out of 50 which is average! :(

It's something you either see or don't. I actually figured it out the same way i do sudoku, cancelling out what can't be until your left with the only answer. When you work out the codes (the hard part) , they are 6 easy marks its just like reading the treasure codes u get on the back of cereal boxes.

It might be down to something in the wording of the answers. B and C doesn't specify "gold stars".

isnt that 1 - robert has 8, sally has 4 more so so she has 12 which makes a total of 20 - simone has half of the total number which would give him 10 - this would make statement A true?

Macca might actually be right, the part that isn't clear is the description of simones amount, it reads as though she has half of the whole number of gold stars, but maybe it does mean the total number of sallys and robs

for the statement to be true the following equation must hold:

8 + x/2 + 12 = x

where x is the total population

as you rightly point out the equation does not hold for all values of x/2 less than 12.

therefore if x/2 is not less than 12 then answer c is correct, given that the statement in the question is true!

But the statement for C is:

Sally has more than Simone

Then if x cannot be less than 12, Simone MUST have more than sally...

So the C is false?

I got 41.

But I got bored halfway through.

And I can see how the test may be slanted in favour of those who may have been "coached" in such tests!

Anyway, I passed the original 11+ when it was still going in Leicester, so that's good enough for me!
