22/23 both summer and winter were disgraceful

 

Summer:

Sold Schmeichel and let Ward be number 1

 

Sold Fofana and replaced him with Faes

 

Fvcked up and couldn't sign Lookman for a bargain deal

 

Winter:

Souttar - shite

 

Kristiansen - shite

 

Tete - flopped and probably should've just kept Perez

This window completely ****ed us as a club. Could have traded our way out and reset but top decided to do nothing. It's a disgrace.

 

And I know Rodgers get stick on here but he was right, if we couldn't sack him. Sell Tielemens for 30m, sell Perez for 15m, Sell Soyuncu for whatever. Asking for silly money and not selling players is unforgivable.

It was a great opportunity, yes, unfortunately the nature of the financial rules meant we hadn't the budget to take advantage.  Newly/recently promoted teams back then didn't spend like forest and ipswich and sunderland have done in recent years.  For their sins, our owners did actually stick to spending limits at that time.

The January window when our only signing was Ryan Bennett on loan. We were comfortably among the 4 best teams in the league, but with a smaller squad than our rivals. We ran out of steam and finished 5th. A couple of decent signings - not world beaters, but players of a Demari Gray or Danny Amartey standard - would have kept us top 4.

 

And the rest, as they say, is history...

Exactly - PL champions and we were shopping in this price bracket - 13M for Mendy, 16 for Musa, even the 25-odd for Slimani - this was our budget at the time - there were 15 players that season who cost more than slimani, even palace spent more on Benteke.

There were far better players in that price bracket available. Gueyi for one.

The irony is, we were still trying to abide by PSR rules at the time, same reason we weren't able to make lookman's loan permanent.

Do you mean Marc Guéhi?  who had just turned 16 at the start of 16/17 season?

 

Besides, the point being made was that having won the league we had a chance to make a huge step up in quality, but we were always going to be hamstringed by what we were allowed to spend - sure, we might have got a gem like maguire on the cheap - but we were never going to be able to spend 40, 50 60 million on a single player; and we were still having to sell players just to be able to spend 20 or 30 million.

Skipp. Even Soumare's not fallen quite as far, though he isn't far behind.

 

Skipp's performances so far in literal League One have swung me back to thinking he will be retired by 30.

Skipp and Soumare are equals for me, the latter just seemed to have 1 game in 5 where some 5'2" opposition waif would bounce off his fat arse and plenty would talk about how "there's a player in there" — seemingly forgetting he'd spent the entire game jogging about the pitch like Mandy Dingle

 

Silva was absolute dogshit as well mind
