All you will get is Micky adams hates youth blah blah blah. BORING!! Maybe he just isn't good enough full stop??!!
Guest Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 Pardon my ignorance to the reserves but on this and other forums all i read and hear is how good Tommy wright is.Is he that good? and has anyone got an explanation as to why hes not in first team if he is that good.(Rooneys 18) 23346 To be fair, not many 18 year olds make the breakthrough. Rooney is an exceptional player, and should not be compared with any other player the same or similar age. Wright has 'potential' and if he is to fulfil that, then he needs to start making the breakthrough now. I personally think he should be figuring more in the team, and hope that Adam's has the sense to allow him to figure more in the team.
Ric Flair Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 He's 20 now and it's time he was given a chance. He has had a good pre-season and started off well in the reserves with 3 goals in his first 2 matches. On current form he should have been ahead of Trevor Benjamin in the starting line up on tuesday night, but he wasn't and after Trev's performance he could well be knocked back down the pecking order, which is a shame. He's never really been given a chance, unlike Benjamin that has been given chance after chance and it's taken him 4 years to put a decent performance in. If Wright gets that many chances then we might well see the best of him, but I doubt we will. It's all about taking your chances and if you only ever get 10 minutes here and there it's hard to stake a claim, but you never know. Hopefully he'll prove alot of people on this forum wrong - Babylon included.

Time will tell whether he can cut it on the bigger stage, Mickey obviously thinks not at the moment but plenty on here think he can. He gets a lot of support for being a local lad too, not sure whether that makes him any better though.

dpjfox Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 Ive seen him play 2 or 3 times and he has yet to impress me, he may be ahead of Blake but certainly not Benji or Connelly. If he was half as good as some people quote on this Forum he would have scored a bagful for Brentford!
Ash Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 Tommy Wright will hopefully be given his chance someday to prove how good he really is , I personally dont know how much potential hes got as ive only saw him a few times ! But what ive seen of him , he'd be a good striker in League 2 nothing better than that, But he still should be given that chance

If he was half as good as some people quote on this Forum he would have scored a bagful for Brentford! 23376 So what has Benjamin done that would warrant him being better than Wright on current form? They both had the same goals to games ratio in pre-season. Wright has scored 3 times in the reserves this season and Benjamin has been taken off at half-time in every game he's played in the reserves because he was woeful. Fair enough Benji has scored a league goal this season, but he was piss poor against Watford when he came on. Wright's played about 20 minutes of football so far this season so nobody know's what he can do. He's looked alot more talented in that time than Benjamin and he offers the team something different, where as Benji is just like Blake and Dublin - Tall and useless. Yes, he did have abit of a mare at Brentford last season, but i've spoken to a few Brentford fans over the net and they said he looked great when he played, but then he got injured after a month or so and when he came back after xmas when the team was really struggling, Wright struggled. If you look at Benjamin's record in the past 4 years at this club, it's disgusting and I would put a million quid on it that if Wright is given as many chances as Benjamin has been given then he would have scored alot more goals than clarence. I'm sorry, but where has this sudden love for Benjamin come from, from City fans? This season especially, yes he tries, but he's awful. Him and Akinbiyi are the only players i've ever seen manage to nutmeg themselves, shocking.
Scow Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 Blake is not tall and useless - He's just useless. Support for Benjamin is more down to his work rate and attitude rather than anything else. I suppose that support has been strengthened with his winner against the sheep, he's becoming more a cult figure. He is generally a shocking player, but always seems to be one of those strikers, like Akinbiyi, that get's themselves in to goal scoring positions. Benjamin has all the physical attributes to become a very decent striker, but he lacks the most important thing - Skill.

Benjamin does have a bizarre knack for being in the right place at the right time infront of goal it's a shame he can't finish though. I can't fault him for trying, but if you haven't got the talent then it's of no use anyway. I just think players like Benjamin and Blake are hindering our homegrown strikers we have at the club, i.e. Wright, O'Grady and a few others. I mean Wright gives it his all when he plays, so if that's the only reason why Benji is in then surely Wright would be a better option.

I remember against Watford he didn't win anything, he jumps to early or too late so he just looks like he's playing with an invisible ball, abit like those old spot the difference coupons. Quality comedy, but not very helpful to the team.
Guest Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 At the minute, I'd rather have Benji and his lack of ability, than some of those on the pitch who look like they can't be bothered.

That's a tricky one to call if you ask me. If you have a player with known talent and they aren't performing such as Connolly or Williams or a player with zero talent but will run his bollocks of like Trev, I would have to go with Williams and Connolly every time. The reason why is because they have the talent to suddenly make something happen and the law of averages say that they would eventually come good and appear to get their fingers out, whereas it doesn't matter how many games Trev plays he isn't going to suddenly start playing well because he lacks talent.
Cat Burger Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 On his first start Tommy scored the winner against our rivals Nottingham Forest...If that's not taking your chance I don't know what is!
Mark Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 He's not going to get a chance when the arrogant ones in charge. Simple as that. You've got to be big, strong, powerful to get up front in this team, or just be a Micky signing in David Connolly and even if you dont score you wont get dropped. It doesnt matter about ability or form, Trevor and Blake have proved that. Most people are not going to be bothered, and just because we are in the top half now will settle for it. Well not me, Adams out forever, and this is one of the reasons why.

It pisses me off really considering in the two starts he's had, he's scored one and won us a penalty in the other. Now perhaps he isn't impressing Micky enough in training, but the lad scores enough in the reserves and I just can't see how he doesn't warrant a start?! Odd

Buzzell Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 Its either Micky doesnt think hes good enough at the minute or Tommy isnt pulling his finger outta his ass. I would play the lad, young, got potential and would probably do a better job than Blake. I was shocked at the start of the seaon because Micky didnt even put him on the bench which I think would have been better then Blake sitting on the bench. Now I think Micky has heard the fans and actually respondid. Time for Tommy to shine!
Hoof Fox Posted 30 September 2004 Posted 30 September 2004 At the moment IMO there is not a lot between Tricky and Tommy and to be fair throughout the season would like to see both being given opportunities ie 20 -25 mins from the bench just to give them games and then if required to start they are more likely to make an impact. Tommy looks a good player but maybe just needs a run in the first team squad to see whether he can cut the mustard. One thing I wouldnt stifle Tommy or Trev in favour of Blake.....Ade Akinbiyi without the effort or ability Wonder whether Nathans "toe injury" is a smokescreen and he has been taken out of the squad to go on a pre season in a bid to get fit.... this way the stubborn one doesnt have to admit he has maybe signed a bad un ! Conspiracy theory or wot.

He couldn't even get a game at Swindon last season.

He does get kicked about a bit to be fair! Jon was there watching the other night, trying to look a bit like a rapper, or something
