Ric Flair Posted 16 February 2006 Share Posted 16 February 2006 I still think ours is on the cheap and tatty side especially that 70's office block (external view) excuse for the main stand. I personally am underwhelmed by our stadium. The glass stuff? I quite like that
Head Honcho Posted 16 February 2006 Share Posted 16 February 2006 Probably because it has a lot more facilities. The Ricoh Arena (during construction the stadium was variously referred to as: Jaguar Arena, Arena Coventry and Arena 2000) is a complex situated in Foleshill, in the north of Coventry, containing a 32,000 seater football stadium, a 6,000 square-metre exhibition hall, a hotel, a leisure club and a planned casino. The name comes from the sponsorship deal, rumoured to be worth £10 million over 10 years, with camera and photocopier manufacturer Ricoh. The sponsorship deal came about after the stadium's initial sponsor, the motor firm Jaguar, was forced to pull out due to the same financial difficulties that had caused the controversial closure of the large Jaguar factory at Brown's Lane, that employed many people from the city. The site is also home to a retail park containing one of Europe's biggest Tesco stores. Not forgetting a couple of Leicester City shirts planted firmly into the foundations

Foxes_Trust Posted 17 February 2006 Share Posted 17 February 2006 We can have a concert but with a very limited capacity, something between 12-14,000 from memory due to cost cutting when the stadium was built which meant the steel used in the construction does not pass certain decibel tests. If the work went ahead this would increase to the early 20,000's, one end of the ground and a bit of each side close to that end would not be open as they would be behind the temporary stage. The last gigs were cancelled due to poor sales regardless of any spin put around at the time. It was very poorly marketed, we made our critical observations about this to the club at the time and as this came under Paul Mace's remit he left soon afterwards. If they look at a concert again, it's more likely they won't go for self promoting, but just take a venue hire fee from a promoter instead' Less potential revenue, but removes risk. Would expect the new Commercial Director once settled in to look at this one, particularly as she comes from a media selling background, will ask her about it next time we see her. john_lcfc Posted 17 February 2006 Share Posted 17 February 2006 sureley we cant have a concert because fans would stand up and that is in breach of our health and safety certificate which may result in an area of the ground closing or thats what they say some steward on saturday said they are clamping down on standing and areas off grounds will be shut so the up to 400 in L1 that stand must sit.. so what about leeds who have about 10000 stand in there kop every week and i guarantee not one leeds fan sits down on tomorow
