Libertine Posted 15 February 2006 Share Posted 15 February 2006 Derby have got RHCP. I'm sure we could attract big names like that too. I was looking forward to us having gigs at the Walkers, I hope they still go for it.

SystonFox Posted 15 February 2006 Share Posted 15 February 2006 I heard Henry turned us down as well! Wednesday 15th Feb 17:30 "Thierry Henry in shock Walkers move". T. Henry is set to be unveiled as Leicester Citys loan signing in a deal that will see R.Smith return to Highbury in exchange for Arsenals record goal scorer. the deal will include that Thierry will advertise for Walkers Crisps aswell as standing outside of Renault Leicester on Abbey Lane for 1 day a week. Wednesday 15th Feb 17:42 "Henry rejects Walkers" Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry is believed to have turned down a deal at Leicester after terms could not be agreed. Henry is reported to have said "i feel i am bigger than walkers crisps im more of a golden wonder kind of guy" and at that moment somebody quickly reminded him Golden Wonder have gone bust to which he broke down in tears and refused to speak to anybody. In other news - Henry the horn blower walks away from the Walkers Stadium with his horn firmly up his jacksie after Tim Davies told him where to proverbially shove it. Tim Davies also said Henry wont be receiving a free season ticket next season as thats just fcking greedy and he should pay like everyone else! Birch'sLeftBoot Posted 15 February 2006 Share Posted 15 February 2006 How central is the Walkers to the city of Leicester? Meaning, is it dead downtown where people can go out and drink, etc., after the show? If not, this could explain why they are putting it off....generating revenue is priority no. 1 for the people owning the lease of such places... Matt Posted 15 February 2006 Share Posted 15 February 2006 I remember we were going to have Status Quo. How funny. I had tickets for that! Status Quo - Legends! Anyway would it be Leicester or the owners of the stadium that have the licence? afterall the stadium is not ours we loan the stadium, therefore I would have thought it would be the owners of the stadium that own the licence = Waste of money for the owner not LCFC. Or Pride Park for that matter?Didn't the WS have the problem in that the designers or the builders or both made it on the cheap and so the stadium can only hold 14,000 for a concert? Or have I misunderstood it?

Something along those lines. I'm sure I heard somewhere that our stadium isn't either safe enough or capable of holding concerts there. Not sure why though, could be bollocks I suppose but they did cancel that festival thing they were promoting at our Super Arena. Why did our stadium only cost £30+ million to build, yet the Ricoh cost over £100 million? Breezeblocks and bubblewrap?

The ground itself is only about half of the complex.

Not sure why though, could be bollocks I suppose but they did cancel that festival thing they were promoting at our Super Arena. Why did our stadium only cost £30+ million to build, yet the Ricoh cost over £100 million? Breezeblocks and bubblewrap? Probably because it has a lot more facilities. The Ricoh Arena (during construction the stadium was variously referred to as: Jaguar Arena, Arena Coventry and Arena 2000) is a complex situated in Foleshill, in the north of Coventry, containing a 32,000 seater football stadium, a 6,000 square-metre exhibition hall, a hotel, a leisure club and a planned casino. The name comes from the sponsorship deal, rumoured to be worth £10 million over 10 years, with camera and photocopier manufacturer Ricoh. The sponsorship deal came about after the stadium's initial sponsor, the motor firm Jaguar, was forced to pull out due to the same financial difficulties that had caused the controversial closure of the large Jaguar factory at Brown's Lane, that employed many people from the city. The site is also home to a retail park containing one of Europe's biggest Tesco stores.

davieG Posted 16 February 2006 Share Posted 16 February 2006 That answers that then. I still think ours is on the cheap and tatty side especially that 70's office block (external view) excuse for the main stand. I personally am underwhelmed by our stadium.
