Ric Flair Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 Would any of you take a chance on Michael Bridges for next season? He's doing really well at Carlisle and is bound to move on in the summer. Still only 27 and one of the best finishers in English football on his day. Apparently he's been injury free for over 2 years, but McCarthy ar Sunderland bollocked him about and he's now found his form again. I would take a chance on him. We'll need another striker for next season as E;vis isn't good enough and O'Grady is still vasty unproven. For a nominal fee we could be getting a premiership class player even if he might have come back from the dead. Or is he abit similar to Fryatt in how he plays? I can see the similarities.
steve_wilson101 Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 Wouldn't want to take the chance to be honest - we've had far too many 'risky' signings over the last few years. We need to get back to a policy of a small number of genuine quality signings that are all but guaranteed to improve the quality of the first team. Our young lads look really good at the moment and we can dip into them if we need some extra strength in depth but I'd really like to see just a couple of new players coming in who can really help us make a step up - I'm not at all sure that Bridges would be one of them.
Sparky Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 defo worth a chance , although your right about him being similar to fryatt , you can never have too many good finisher in your squad
Jimmy Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 if he's on a free then its worth the gamble, as with piper, if they can stay fit they could play a big part in any future success IMO
New England Fox Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 if he's on a free then its worth the gamble, as with piper, if they can stay fit they could play a big part in any future success IMO He did nothing at Bristol City the first part of this season, must be better options around surely.

He's a decent punt but not what we most need right now especially if Chambers gets the look in he merits. What we need are: A goalkeeper, no question whatsoever. An attacking left back. A centre-back A creative midfield player Two wingers. The willingness to use them. The shedding of all the dead weight we have carried this season.
Bilko Posted 27 February 2006 Posted 27 February 2006 I've seen Bridges a couple of times at Carlisle, my local club. He is much better than this division and has scored some great goals since he moved up here. He has always said he needed a run of games to find his form, whcih is what Paul Simpson has given him at Brunton Park. He gets better every week and is still relatively young. He is different to Matty Fryatt (who coincidently played for Carlisle on loan). Bridges is bigger and can be a target man. He also has a good first touch. If we were to take him l would go for a 1-year deal with options. He could be worth a punt IF his health holds up.
johnny Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 would'nt buy bridges if i was you lads best days were at leeds pace as gone
Sir Fynwy Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 would'nt buy bridges if i was you lads best days were at leeds pace as gone I heard a radio interview with him a few weeks ago, he admitted that he'd lost his pace permanently and was having to change his game to suit. Do we want another Devries?

It wasnt so much that McCarthy bollocked him about, he just looked miles off the pace for us last year, sadly - as he had done for Leeds, Newcastle, Bolton, and Bristol City also. For his sake, though, I really hope he gets back to a higher level.
