Craig Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Gary Megson has confirmed that he will not renew his contract with West Brom when it runs out in the summer. Megson has been under-fire after the club's poor start to their Premiership campaign, and a convincing defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend brought admissions that players were not training properly. Rumours that Megson would be leaving surfaced on Tuesday, and the manager has now confirmed that he will not sign a new deal. "I won't sign a new contract," Megson told The Express and Star. "I don't intend to talk any more about the decision I have made. "I have a contract until June 30 and I intend to carry on doing my job until then. "I will give all the effort and drive that I can to succeed on behalf of the football club. "If training is not good enough, if the results don't go the right way I will continue to be upset about it." It remains to be seen if West Brom will allow Megson to see out his deal or seek a replacement for the remainder of the season. Sir Bobby Robson has been linked with the club, and is available after being dismissed as Newcastle boss earlier this season He'll be gone before then
Ric Flair Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Be surprised if he if left and then signed straight for us without any time out in between, wouldn't you? Quick let's appoint someone.
Mark Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 West Brom part company with Gary Megson with immediate effect. Fantastic
Scow Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Oh dear..... Strange how he said he was quitting at the end of the season, then goes on the same day.
Sparky Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 yeah just seen it . there is the new manager <_<
Ash Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 I doubt he is coming to us lads , Why would you wanna move down divisons ? Plus he fell out with the board along time ago
Guest Daniel Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Well nobody in the premiership will want him. He will have to drop divisions if he wants to carry on managing. I think this is the man. Hope not.
MON Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 I would rather have Megson then Bryan Robson, John Gregory, Dave BAsset, Colin Lee, Howard Wilkinson, Pearce, Mcallistar etc you get the message. I would like it to be out of Gordan Strachan, Gary Megson. Is Berti Vogts still the Scotland boss or has he been sacked yet. If not, I think it will be between Gary Megson and Gordan Strachan.
>>>Bevan<<< Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 He's always been a defensive manager, but i think could do well for us, he is one of the best young british managers about. To be honest there wont be many if any better candidates.

Plus he fell out with the board along time ago 29602 of cause he would join us , as blue mistress said who in the premiership will want him ? this club is one of the biggest outside the premiership , its a dream job for him . im like the rest of u not to sure about him but prefer him to bassett/wilko
Carlo Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 My mate's a WBA fan and Megson sounds a lot like Peter Taylor!!!
Babylon Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Jesus Christ, what the hell do you lot expect? Sven Gran Ericsson? Alex ferguson? Maybe Arsene Wenger? The guy has got West Brom.... i repeat WEST BROM!!!! Promoted twice in three seasons to the premier league. A better record than anyone else we could wish to get, and guess what your all moaning we might get him!!?? Obviously there have been a few problems at west brom with there players recently. Before the board rush in i would hope they get to the bottom of whats gone on, as it could be the case that megson is a willy puller. If so then keep clear, if not get him in i say. Could you guys please explain why it is you don't want him?? So far people have just said he is defensive!! Well, i don't know if you have been watching us for the last year but we could do with learning how to bloody defend!!!
Anish Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Babylon - people have mentioned in a previous thread about him that he is too similar to Micky Adams. 1) It seems he can get teams out of the Championship/Div 1, but can't cut it with the big boys 2) He manages to fall out with players regularly 3) He has made a number of duff signings 4) He doesn't accept responsibility for the team (just this week he blamed the attitude of the players in training for the 3-0 defeat by Crystal Palace). IMO if we appointed him we would not be moving forwards as a club.

I would rather go up and come doen again than stay in this division and let the parachute payments run out. Why does everyone seem to think it is so easy to survive in the premier??? 2)Maybe one or two but so does every manager, like i said the board need to check out what has gone on. If he's a tosser then forget it. At the minute no one knows the facts do we?! 3) So did martin oneil. Fenton, Gunerlargsson to name just two. MA had no money to spend so we shouldn't have expected every freeebie to work out. Just because he signed lee marshall doesn't make him a bad manager..... well it nearly does 4) If the players were at fault then so he should blame them. Again a bit like 2) we don't know the full facts.
Anish Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Who do you fancy as manager Anish?? 29657 Ideally Gordan Strachan, but more realistically up and coming managers like Levein or Penney would be my choices.
Ash Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Ive started to come round to the idea of Megson of our manager ! He has done really well with WBA ....He's still not my number one choice but i wouldnt mind him becoming our manager
Babylon Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Some baggies fans comments below... "I would just like to say thanks to Sir Gary for saving my beloved football team and for breathing new life into a club which had forgotton how to be ambitious. I for one won't forget what he has done for this club. HE IS A WEST BROM LEGEND. Over to you now Mr Peace. Good Luck." "for what it is worth I in my reasoned opinion, being someone supportive of Megson right until saturday, is, he increasingly showed his limitations this season. if he had been the man he hoped to be he would be moving to a man c or everton now instead it is likely to find him at a similar mid size club to ourselves with prem aspiration like Leicester. He could not cope with the skill and sharpness at this level and has been more interested in club politics for the past month as his limitations became all too apparent. Now is an opportunity and we should go for as big a name as we can. I quite like the idea of Houllier or even Hoddle. Lastly, thanks GM and good luck in the future. You made me proud of Albion again and I will always remember that." "Lets get one thing straight. My experience of the Albion goes back to 1967. Gary Megson is the best manager we have ever had.I hope for all our sakes Mr Peace knows what he is doing. It's a pity someone wasn't big enough to knock their heads together. Once again it appears the Albion have killed the Golden goose." also a baggies article about whats been going on between the board, players and megson. http://www.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=933&p=2&stid=8363585
Oli Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 I would like to see him here. I think he would get us promted then we could build on it.
Babylon Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Good Record 29676 Don't think you can argue with that!!! I have been doing alot of reading over the last couple of hours about what the baggies fans think, to be honest it is quite mixed. The guys football record never once got frowned upon, just the man management side of his work seemed to get questioned. Overall i would most definately be happier to get him than any other possible other than strachan. Who will probably go WB anyway!!
Hoof Fox Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 The one thing you will find with both Megson and Adams is it is highly unlikely they will make the same mistakes again. IMO whichever clubs end up with these two as managers are going to do well. We all have made mistakes, but we tend to learn from them and become better people or better at our jobs. Whilst Megson does remind me of Adams, the more I think of it the more I think he may well be the right manager to take over. He has a proven track record at our level and he also has premiership experience and used to working under tight financial constraints. If we get him in lets give him a chance, remember Strachan struggled in his last couple of seasons at Cov but then did well at Saints.
